Mmmmmm. I always make tiramisu with kahlua, and I definitely wind up eating a ton of the cream cheese/sugar/whipping cream mixture, because it's amazing.

If you want to get as ghetto as I did, you can not only use cream cheese, but also bake white cake mix into muffins instead of using ladyfingers. The instant espresso in the cake mix just makes it perfect.

Oh man. It looks so delicious. Maybe I have to make some now...

A friend of mine found a recipe on the internet that called for cake, but we had no clean cake pans. We tried it later, when we did have pans, and it wasn't nearly so good as with the muffins (also, we tried to do it on a plate instead of in a bowl, and it was a ridiculous mess).

I tried making a trifle with pound cake once, and found it far too intensely sweet and buttery. It would probably be too heavy for tiramisu.
