More baking - it's Challah day!

Just wanted to share my first Challah. It was for my baking class. I had to do a baking project where I would write a 1 page paper and thenbake whatever it was I based it on. I chose 'lean yeast doughs'. I had to do two of them and have one successful and the other fail. That's why the little one at the top right is kinda funny looking. It ( Read more... )

hehe Actually, I added a little extra salt which inhibits the yeast, then omitted the egg wash. An egg wash will help crust development, assist in browning, gives the final product a nice shine, and helps the poppy seeds to adhere. :)

As for how to braid it, if you go to this page, there's a video that showed me. Took a couple minutes to figure it out, but once I did, it's really simple!

Oy! Those look so good it makes me consider ending my "gluten-free" ways and heading over to our local Kosher Bakery. Mmm.... Challah. (Even better the next morning as french toast)
