I imagine they'll be composting their vegetable waste, so assuming they could get through a growing season they could have some small amount of "soil" to expand their crops the next season. Also, manure, I'll leave the specific animal sources to your imagination.

You might want to poke around sites about living off grid and sustainable building. I know some grey water treatment systems involve stages growing plants.

Once you have some source of nutrients in the water you can look into what can be grown using hydroponics.

Of course before they can grow anything they need to have some source plants or seeds.

"Lucky bamboo" is actually a type of lily, and don't believe it: it's more that some plants won't drown when submerged or rooted in water, and the water they'd be found in is fairly rich in nutrients in nutrients.

Your hydroponic gardener survivors might be able to root their plants in concrete rubble (calcium, yum) and run nutrient rich water over or through the roots, but getting the nutrients right is supposed to be the iffy part of hydroponics.
