Wow. Just wow. I'm glad I took the time to read this.
I know very well where you're coming from.
History's weave and the way it affects all of us is something no one can deny. Nonetheless, like you said, people tend to forget or else they see things from another perspective, ignoring the small stories which are the one that count the most. It's hard to try and make others see through one's eyes, for them to truly see what one's passions are truly like and what they truly mean.
I go through the same thing in regards to literature. It's something very few people around me actually understand. Literature has consumed my life since a very young age; it makes me live experiences that, as you said, it feels like some grabbed my heart and squeezed it tight. I don't read it... I live it. And it's downright scary sometimes. It's something no one will ever be able to experience first hand. They do not know the depths of human nature that are reflected in the written word; they might catch a glimpse but they'll never see it as I do

SO HAPPY. I can only really do one perspective at a time, which is why my friend thinks I have such tunnel vision. 'Cause she's only seen me in huge-mind-space-star map mode, or rather the edge of that mode ('cause that mode is usually followed by me passing out or getting another drink). And 'cause I've never explained it, she doesn't get how much I connect with the people of history on a individual and personal level. Sometimes I complain that I hear the dead talking to me, not in like a literal ghost kinda way, but that sort of way.

And yeah, sometimes you've to choose the people you talk with about stuff like this. >.> It's happened to me often that other just stare weirdly at me. Like no matter how much you try to explain it, others just can't tune in to your frequency. :S
I guess that's partly why I'm so happy with grad school at the moment. I've had the chance to meet people who experience the same syndrome I do and they understand where I'm coming from. It's kind of relieving to realize you're not losing your mind. 8D
So here's to striking out on one's own path and walking it no matter what. *raises drink* xD
