At some stage last year we had a discussion about Mr Bush not having a birthday. Hornblower's birthday is 4th July, as we all know, and I've unilaterally decided that Kennedy's birthday is 12th February, but poor old Mr Bush? Nothing. Not until someone, I can't remember whom, (possibly kittycallum or eglantine_br?) suggested that William Bush's birthday should be 5th

Anyway it's about the real Lt. Bush. William S. Bush, USMC and commander of the Marine contingent aboard USS Constitution. Not sure if CSF had him in mind when he named Hornblower's friend.

It's quite possible he did. CSF always had a good eye for the US market. Than again, William and Bush are both very common names so who knows?! :)
