Yes. This is how I see it. I love the way you made Bush's hands. His whole body shows strength and regret. And Archie looks so kind. It is as if Archie was saying 'It is all right-- I don't mind.'
Ah, recursive fan fiction, I love that. :-) Personally I imagine muster books much bigger. Perhaps twice as large, though I have no idea why I think so as I've never seen one. ;-) Your Archie is beautiful and quite elusive, as fits the original story. I like it very much.
I've only had the pleasure of getting my hands on one of the Indefatigable's muster books once, but nodbear is intimately acquainted with them. You're right about them being bigger, perhaps not quite twice the size, but not far off. They're a little wider and rather taller than this.
Btw if you like "recursive fanfic" you should have a look at the Hornblower Remix we did a couple of years ago, there's some more of katriona_s beautiful art work there :)
I've already peeked in that. The creativity and mutual inspiration is amazing. Also, recursion has fascinated me ever since I can remember (people in TV who watch TV -- I could never get enough of that when I was small, LOL).
Oh my goodness this is beautiful! It actually brought a wee tear to my eye, I'm quite overwhelmed. I've never had an illustration inspired by one of my fics before and this is just perfect. It really captures the shades of light and dark that I was trying to get across in the fic. Thank you so much, I'll treasure this more than you can possibly imagine :)
Hi. I'm glad to know you liked this. As you know it's rare for me to want to draw Hornblower XD but when I read your story the idea of this pic came to me...
