I really do think this is how it happened. I love that Archie is so loud and certain when it comes to his defense of Bartholomew. Batry is a good boy, I bet Archie' coffee tasted nasty!
I have more evidence to support my assertion. Apparently Mary Russell Mitford wrote to Sir William Etford (whoever those two are)), "Mama says that she was then the prettiest, silliest, most affected, husband-hunting butterfly she ever remembers. So I guess she was in that inn looking for men. Alas, she only found our lads. :)
Not to mention that even Admirals are not allowed to have ships musters on their desks which are Admiralty property -
so Bart has rescued Lord H from the FIrst Lord's wrath too - clever good boy :) and i shall smile about BArt and Lord H and Archie next Tuesday when I have to stain my fingers again with the crumbling spine of the 1796 paybook instead of the better bound musters - though I promise I shall ot keep Archies secret when I annotate the wiki- type entry on the 1797 muster :)
also the image of Lord H conjured up in the juxtapposition of sentences 1 and 2 is marvellous- if on the true -but-cruel side !
I'm not sure Barty Bop was aware of that regulations, he'd quite like to see Lord H hauled off to the brig for a night or two, more room to spread out on the bed then!
Shocking that Horatio had been abstracting admiralty property ! Anyone would think he had been set a bad example !
Nodbear : You mean something like those two cannon from the Queen Charlotte which are still on the terrace at TEignmouth and how its a mystery they got there ?
