You and Pellew, and the Indy. Standing on the quarterdeck with the sails unfurled on a clear blue day with a fair wind and a following sea! There was nothing like it, Horatio. Even when I was a higher rank on the Renown I was never as happy as I was on the Indy.
So true. And from what nodbear and I have learned of the historical crew of the Indefatigable, many of them were never happier than when they were on the Indy, and the friendships they forged there really did last throughout their lives.

we find lots of references in the condolence letters they wrote after Pellew died recalling those days which were by then 40 years into the past and they are nostalgic and fond about the days of the Indy. Archie expresses here just how we would best like to think of them as in your icon

I loved Oldroyd's little role too - it seems so right that he is with the children - and learning from them! A place of peace abd where wrongs are righted
