I like it very much. I have not seen that version-- although I keep meaning to do so. When I read the books, the man in my head is not quite Paul M-- so another face for Bush is fine in my mind.
I got your holiday card today-- with the picture of our happy day in Boston. I feel very lucky to have a friend from another side of the world. In the world of the past we might never have met-- a reason, I think to like the world of now better!
Thank you! I like the movie Hornblower very much, but as you might know the characters' were wearing "incorrect" uniforms there I've wanted to draw them in the proper ones...
It's been a while since I've seen the 1951 film, so I'm not visualizing the uniform Mr. Bush wears in the film. BTW this, and the lieutenants' uniforms in Mutiny and Retribution are the "undress" uniforms of the time. Dress uniforms were the ones with white lapels, such as Horatio wears in The Wrong War. (Frogs and Lobsters.) Lieutenants' uniforms basically remained unchanged from 1787 (pre Horatio midshipman days) through 1812, when these folks finally got to wear an epaulette. Cut, fit, and accessories (breeches, trousers, waistcoat, etc.) did vary with time. Dave
And I think HH's lapels should have been blue, matching the rest of the uniform. They also missed on the number of buttons. I believe nine was the usual complement. Dave PS Thanks for the visual reminder
