Sentimental... yes. And I wanted to describe some happiness here. Though generally Bush is not a sentimental nor delicate man, I love to imagine that he might smile a subtle, contented smile sometimes on Nonsuch, when he is alone.
Well, you know how I feel about that: I have no trouble imagining it. Bush had no idea that he'd ever go to sea again...to find himself back after all--as a captain, no less--deserves to bring forth a smile now and again!
I know what you mean, and I knew that you were the first person who would understand what I have wanted to depict in this small drawing. Though Bush is a man who can feel happy without much difficulties -unlike Hornblower- and must have many good memories about most of the vessels he has been posted, I believe his true happiness is just on HMS Nonsuch.
The way he looks down, the half-smiling, half-wistful expression on his face - it's almost as if he were looking at/talking to a person who is very dear to him. There's so much emotion there.
