Was thinking about this scene just today. (The deck part, I mean.) Poor Randall, in his flowered underpants. Can I say again, I love the way you write?

Thank you!

It wasn't Randall. Randall was the one who shoved the nameless boy off the yardarm.

I think the part that took longest for this one was firing up the DVD and transcribing the canon dialogue.

Oh! Of course you are right. I have had that wrong for so long. (Randall's underpants probably have poison ivy!)

We won't discuss just HOW MANY times I've watched Mutiny/Retribution. If we're being polite, we can put it down to "attention to detail." ("Obsessive fangirl" would be more to the point!)

But embroidered poison ivy, or merely a disgruntled shipmate rubbing them with poison ivy? And do they HAVE poison ivy there? Maybe someone's woven him a pair of drawers out of nettles, like the magical shirts in The Seven Swans.

Very nicely observed. Auctioning of dead sailors clothes is such a moving tradition and the embroidered waistbands is a really touching detail. I can just imagine some creative soul turning them into shirt collars.

Styles has his suspicions about Horatio/Archie, even if he keeps it to himself
Yes, I've always thought that Styles and Matthews must have known but were loyal enough not to let on.

Hand me angsty pairings, I write them happily-ever-after fic. Hand me ridiculous silly challenges, I write angst. Glad you liked it!

I'll take that as high praise!

seriously, the dialogue is all nicked straight from the movie until I got to the auctioning, I just filled in the blanks from Styles' POV.

How many things must have been sold and proudly owned more than once- one can imagine the three waistbands cut off for collars and actaully one of them endin up a trim for a wife or girlfriend - with care not to let on from whence it came maybe

tremendous love and affection probsbly lay in so many of those objects - and hours of history which we will never know!

thank you

I saw an exhibit, at Mystic Seaport, with some of the artifacts like the hand-embroidered ribbons for their hats, and the amount of time and attention that they represented was really striking to me. So with the challenge, it came to mind.
