What??? I have not known about the original - UK version ending at all until now. Very interesting...

I checked my Japanese book, it says it's a translation from "The Commodore" still it has the whole story of Hornblower's return to England!!!

Looks like you have a translation of the feel-good version with the happy ending! For once Hornblower does actually get a happy return :D
