Ooh, brutal. I never understood Horatio/Maria, but I always felt sorry for her. This is very hard to read, poor stupid girl. But women have made worse bargains.

We know that Horatio married her for pity and honor but I wondered if she understood it, if she knew that Horatio didn't love her, he only liked her.
Thank you for reading :)

This feels so real to me. Poor Maria. She should have been content with just his friendship. Poor all of them. None of them get enough of what is real. Thank you for posting.

I guess that Maria was thinking to change him we know that she failed but probably she was content to just have him also if he didn't love her.
Thank you my love :)

It's always great to read something from one of the ladies point of view. I love how this read almost like a poem and I especially loved Love has many meanings and you picked the right one, with the wrong person.

this one came like this as fast as Horatio's changing moods I wanted to let her talk about what she feels knowing that Horatio doesn't love her, he only likes her as a friend.
Thank you :)

With the honourable exception of a fine piece by one of our real-life naval spouses Gayalondiel earlier this year Maria still gets a raw deal mainly - but this was well done and esmerelda_t is right it is very lyrical - as so often your prose is ! Splendid writing .
'old powdered people 'is so very apt for the wives of the next- rung rank of captains who look down on Maria
she is not stupid I think - she bargains for better than nothing - and she thinks she can offer love to change things
and somehow they did produce three children so there must have been the odd -er - moment ...
