Oh, I love this. The details, of the rooms, the days... You have written something really subtle here about grief and love, it's so sad and beautiful.

I am struggling with the same subject now, with moving Horatio and Archie from grief to joy.

So glad you came back...

How delightful that you are back and with this particularly poignant story - I love the way Archie has the last - and loving - word.Of course !

Asalways with your stories the pace and the movement of the language is beautifully balanced - thank you !

Can I be a total bore and say soemthing that will have struck all our British readers - it just can;t help how we read the story!

Archie's father is either Lord Kennedy, if he is an Earl or a Viscount etc
but if he is a knight or a baronet, he is "sir "plus his name

so for instance Sir John Kennedy - and he would be addressed as " Sir John " when you spoke to him, and in the former case he would be addressed as "Lord Kennedy" or my Lord - as the Earl of Edrington insists to Horatio and Archie in Frogs and Lobsters/The wrong war

The British peerage system is deliberately obscure I think and it is of course not important in terms of the power of your tale at all- but if it helps I can point you to several places that explain it not too badly!

but it is really great to have you

I too, love how Archie sort of gives permission, from beyond the grave.

Horatio going back to see Archie's family, after, is one of those scenes that I often think about, and I love your version here. I like how everything is so ornate, too fancy, for how Horatio thinks of Archie. Archie's other life, his rich life, must have seemed so strange to a country doctor's son.

And Horatio being jealous of the maid, and Bush and his cake, too delightful.

Yeah Bush and his cake too much funny maybe because I love cakes now an english man like him should love a chocolate one, a sponge Victoria one or carrot cake one.
But then another question and maybe Nodbear can help me with this one, these kind of cakes were existing during William's time?

Writing in "second person" can be difficult but you seem to have pulled it off.

Thank you yes I find more easy to describe his feelings if I write in second person.

Awww beautiful! I love the way this progresses and the last line breaks my heart and makes me smile all at the same time. Just like Archie himself :) Thank you!

And here are the too ornate rooms... the castleand the boudoir.
