Oh I really like this. I especially like the part about how Bush wishes he could swim, just to have his lover washing over him.

I love how you describe Bush growing up, and his understanding changing as he learns.

I am going to write a Bush-as-a child story soon. No sex in it, but school and climbing trees, falling in mud, things like that.

I wasn't planning to write a young Bush and how he spent his midshipman days in fact I wanted to write some Bush/Hornblower but this one came suddenly in my mind and asked to be written down.
So I see we are on the same level of thinking you want to write a young bush too :)
Maybe because we knew so few about him and he's really a great character!

Wow. This is really kind of wonderful. A very, very impressive piece of writing. There's a beautiful rhythm and flow to it and, as always the imagery is unique. I really like the second person perspective and I have to agree with eglantine_br the following line is really something special...

And now he's like a tide, he comes and he goes. You would like to know how to swim, just to have him washing over you,

I love your Bush icon is so sensual and so Bush!
Thank you for your nice comment I love William character and sometimes I wonder what, how he was when he was more younger.
In this one I gave him a teacher, a lover and a man somehow very similar to the adult Bush.
I wanted them to have something in common like being devoted to their captain, working hard, being alone and not receiving many promotions.
I wanted to give him a name too but then I left it to the fantasy of the reader to guess how he would look like, what was his name ...

I think the anonymity of the First Lieutenant works really well btw.
