Huzzah for Despatches!
Man the yards! Sound the salute! The 500th edition of despatches has just been posted! Yes, you heard that right, 500th!
I know most of you here are already familiar with despatches but just in case it's passed you by, despatches is LJ's long running newsletter for happenings in the world of Age of Sail fandom. The newsletter covers all manner of fanish creative endeavours, community news and challenges and items of historical interests from a wide range of fandoms including Hornblower, Pirates of the Caribbean, Aubrey-Maturin, Temeraire, Sharpe, Jane Austen, Les Misérables, Garrow's Law and others. despatches current editor is the inestimable joyful_molly, however several dedicated fangirls have taken the helm over the years; damned_colonial, nolivingman and tootsiemuppet. It's no exaggeration to say that despatches has done more than any single comm to keep AoS fandom afloat on LJ, so huge, huge thanks to everyone involved for all your sterling efforts!
In recognition of despatches 500th edition, joyful_molly posted a link to the very first edition on the 25th June 2005, and I'm delighted to note that Hornblower fandom was there in the first edition, and we're still there in the 500th edition. I think that's something to be proud of :)
