You know how it is when you have fics pending, historical posts overdue and a mountain of RL work besides?
That is of course the very moment Archie needs another sonnet posted and ambushes one with it.
This one is the joint fault of
anteros_lmc and
eglantine_br and their two recent images of Archie awake beside a sleeping Horatio. For once Archie's sonneteering is more influenced by Shakespeare than Donne,at least for the image that gets him going.
Title :The Imagined Coast
Word Length : The usual 14 lines and a small editorial note
Summary: Archie on sleep, innocence and the cost of preserving them.
Disclaimer: Archie is not mine, neither is the verse form, or even the ruling metaphor.A small offering then, inspired by
anteros_lmc and
eglantine_br reassembling words hopefully to some purpose.
The Imagined Coast
Not all imagined shores are dark with fear
some, like Bohemia’s sea -coast, will reveal
with mild deception only, that to wear
disguise is love’s best jest, that truth will steal
both heart and breath, and all be golden, fine
and real. On such imagined strands I would
you cast up always, your rest sure , as mine
is not, your love untainted .That it should
be so I would give gold, had I a prize
so rich to trade. Not having one, and just
myself to give, amazed that in your eyes
I do have worth indeed, I know I must
from all lee shores ,dark waters , keep you far.
For worth such keeping, all to me you are.
TO Mr HH, and on the sea coasts of the heart. AK.
Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is (in)famously set on the nonexistent “Sea coast of Bohemia”This poem could have been written by Archie either as a result of resting next to Horatio just past the events in Anteros' recent fic Good Night or out of his night time waking in Kent in Eglantine's That Dark Shore and in fact one may suppose to be a bit of both.
