So over on Goodreads, we've been discussing the Hunger Games racefail in a POC-community in which I belong. One of the members reposted a comment from Jezebel which eloquently sums up the issues at hand.

I haven't read the Hunger Games and one thing this whole discussion had me wondering is how many times did the author make it plain what race her characters were. I find that white authors often seem to try to use an overly light touch when visually describing nonwhite characters, and I hope some authors will look to this and be reminded that, no, they need to make it clear, and mention it more than once, to drive it into the brains of their mostly white readership that these characters do not look like them.
