Go, little fierce Mei! Loving all the details you put in here, like her thinking the blond Sage is handsome (*cough*) and how she avoids the boards that would wake the clan when she sneaks out. And I feel so bad for her at the end, after all of her hard work! But we know she'll be all right.

Yes, she'll be fine.

The details were fun to write, indeed!

This was awesome! :D I really like how you wrote her desperation to just do something in there :) And I just love the friendship between Xiao Mei and her :) I especially loved the bits about Mei trying to explain to Xiao Mei that the food needs to be left alone for the journey xD
Thanks so much for this <3

I'm really glad you like it! I don't normally write Mei, but your prompt was very intriguing, so I decided to try it.

I talk to my dogs about their need to leave food alone all the time. They listen. Mostly. :D If it's mine.

Mei is such a badass! I love the way you've laid out her journey, snake fight included. You have a great gift for one-liners, too:

It's really hard to hide fruit from a being with a better sense of smell than you have. and She can't afford to waste her body's water on tears. and It isn't too much to ask, is it? Some green, the Philosopher's Stone, and some food that isn't snake.

Love it!

I love writing codas to little short scenes like these. They're far too much fun. I may come up with the coda almost before the scene is written.

Thank you!

Seconded all the stuff likeadeuce says, especially the line about trying to hide fruit. I always like when you get in worldbuilding mood - all the background details felt very right here, like the reasons for the Chang clan's fall (complete with RL history references) and Mei's grandparents. Hoorah!
