Ooo, very sad ending. Rsn's unspoken self-image is both disturbing and touching. I liked the comparison with Roy and Riza as well (of course). The lack of interaction with Ling makes sure this story is sad all through, but very good and an original prompt interpretation.

I think your first foray into Lan Fan's character is about as canon as can be. I'm forever the rose tinted romantic, hoping against hope that they will get together, laws be damned, and have many children and be happy together. But this is probably more what Arakawa-sensei had in mind when she drew their last image of them in the manga. Thank you so much for the fic and this heartbreakingly honest look into Lan Fan's soul.

Well, it's a pessimistic view of cannon, since there's so little communication or understanding between Ling and Ran here. I think it goes together really nicely with 'shadow' from the other week.

Haha I just realized both this entry and the one from the overheard prompt even has the same title. Agree with you on that.

Ooooo, this is just too, too good. One cannot help but wonder what kind of training Lan Fan went through to become a bodyguard and how it transformed her as a person (and as a woman). And then that contrast with Riza/Roy's relationship! Wow. Finally, the future you depict for Lan Fan is heartbreaking, but rings (unfortunately) true.

This is beautifully written - thanks for creating such a poignant piece!

For your firs time writing Lan Fan, this is quite well done. Can totally see Lan Fan thinking that way. And like everyone else like the comparison with Roy and Riza too. Great work!
