Title: Trivialities Series: Manga/Brotherhood Word Count: 497 Rating: G Characters: Roy Mustang, Riza Hawkeye Summary: [Spoiler here. See Warnings.]Roy deals with being in the hospital. Warnings: Spoilers for the last chapters of the manga/last episodes of Brotherhood. There is angst, too.
I'm sure this makes me a terrible person, but I actually would've liked Roy to be blind for a bit longer. :T Sadistic, maybe, but dang it, there was so much drama potential! Give me that eyepatch nonsense over this brief blindness any day.
what I would've liked to see is somethign similar to what happens to Havoc in the manga. He's shown struggling in the physical therapy room, because his muscles have weakened from lack of usage. Roy should get his sight back in stages. Like at first all he can see is very very blurry light and dark, and maybe not see all the colors. Let it heal gradually. That would have been an interesting way to heal up. Make him appreciate his sight better.
Yeah, I could go for that. Of course, there's nothing canon to confirm or deny that it could have happened that way. ;3 So I guess it leaves it open for fanfic writers like us, huh? Hint hint nudge nudge.
Could've sworn I'd commented on this already. Anyway:
Teehee blind challenge. I see what you did there. ;3 But, on a more serious note, I like the general tone of this work. It feels a lot like how, in Brotherhood, Roy was really silent after realizing his sight was gone. It has the same kind of slow, coping feel to it. I imagine he really wouldn't want anyone else to see how it affected him. Poor man. It's no good to bottle things up!
I'm glad someone addressed something that really caught my attention in the manga. Roy was stabbed through both hands! I'd need a lot more than two little pills for that.
It is so like Roy to pretend he is still smooth and suave and not injured in any way.
I love this so much. Poor Roy. :( Having to deal with not only the pain and blindness, but his guilt over Hawkeye and the constant reminder that she suffered because of him. All while trying to keep it all behind the mask of his ego.
Yeah, Roy really had a lot to deal with, there. Gotta feel bad for him. But he's a strong guy, he can put on a brave face and push through. I'm sure it would help if he'd just admit that he could maybe use a little assistance.... But, too much pride, oh well.
I imagine that newly blind people must use their hands a lot, to get input as well as to do the usual things we do with our hands. What a great mixture of emotions you show along with the physical pain. Great fic!
Thank you! And yeah, having his hands crippled at the same time as going blind must have really sucked. More reasons to fumble over simple things like eating. Which, for a man like Roy, must inspire a lot of shame....

Pretending you're smooth and suave is a little difficult when you can't see what you're doing, unfortunately, hands aside.
