A/N: Okay, so, this is a funny story. Originally, I had planned to do a collection of short stories, named "Compilation", with the perspective of eight different characters. I even had some drafts written and all of the characters planned out, but I suppose time got the better of me and here I am, with only one piece fully completed. The most hilarious part is this: I've had this planned since before I left for my trip, right after I posted my last piece. Ha. Ha. So, this is all I have to offer for you this week. I'm terribly sorry for my troublesome procrastination.
(Also, I know that some of the entries this week involve Roy, but I have written this over a week ago, and, well, it's a little to late to change things now. Happy reading?)
"Your coffee, sir."
General Mustang shifted his sleepy eyes up from his paperwork to the captain, noticing the short strands of her blond hair that caught the light of the early morning sun as it shone through window.
The night before had been yet another long and tiring one for Roy, resulting in him to oversleep and arrive to work several minutes late. Somehow, she knew that he had missed breakfast.
"Ah, thank you, Captain," he responded with an appreciative smile, lifting his hand to take the mug from her.
Their fingers brushed ever so slightly as he did so. Their eyes met and they shared a fleeting glance that said so much more than words ever could before she saluted him and began to make her way out of his office.
He watched her back (her back, he had to constantly remind himself to keep from his overbearing guilt) as she stiffly walked toward her desk, stationed just outside of his door.
"Captain," he said, suddenly.
She paused before she passed through the doorway. She looked at him from over her shoulder. "Sir?"
He lifted his mug in a toasting sort of way. "I'm glad I have you to watch my back."
Turning her body halfway, she smiled her rare, small smile, lightly resting her hand on the door’s frame. "Always, sir." And then she was gone.
No, not gone, he told himself.
Taking a sip of his steaming beverage, he wondered when the day would come for them to share a cup of coffee.
