Al stepped into the circle. He didn't mean to and he hated himself for being so gullible sometimes, especially for a man like Tucker. Al couldn't help it. He understood Tucker's original motivations and the ones he had now because deep down he wanted what was substantially the same thing: getting Nina back was no different than him wanting his body back, especially since even Al knew no soul would be there. Once it was gone from this world, it was gone forever.
The blue light engulfed him and he was scared. No one truly knew how the Philosopher's Stone worked. What if he disappeared? What happens to his soul if he doesn't truly die? Edward was going to kill him either way. Al would've ended up doing this anyway.
And another thing, Al thought, Everyone knows Tucker is no truly skilled alchemist. This wasn't going to end well.
In fact, it rebounded. Suddenly he remembered being sucked into the gate again. Or was he? The power of the stone clogged his mind. He reached around in the dark with hands that slowly unraveled. When he strangely began to rematerialize, he felt something wasn't quite right.
“What has Tucker done?” Al wondered aloud with worry.
Suddenly he was back in the room, surrounded by slowly clearing smoke.
Tucker stood over him, mumbling about his Nina over and over, but upon closer inspection, he was horrified to see he had only given Al his body back. He stepped away, mumbling, “No, no, everything was perfect. This shouldn't have happened.”
Al sat up woozily, “You should know... Tucker... that even so-called perfect... transmutations can backfire. No one knows why, usually it's because of an unskilled alchemist like you. But I had no choice--” He stopped. His voice... sounded strange. My voice is usually high pitched. I mean, all boys' voices don't change until they're older, but... Um... He felt around in the dark, discovering something very squishy on his chest. He nearly choked. “I-I'm...”
“Yes, I see...” Tucker stalker-whispered. “You somehow regained your body, but with the aid of my Nina... What have you done?”
“What have I done?! What have you done to me?!” Al cried. “I'm a woman because of you! I didn't even get the chance to be a man yet! And the Philosopher's Stone is gone!”
“The Philosopher's Stone only answered your prayers Alphonse, nothing more. You got your body back and I got my Nina.” Tucker moved closer, brushing back Al's bangs, “Well, this won't do.”
Al could only whimper in response.
