Alchemy was equal parts agony and ecstasy. Roy had known that since an early age. His aunt had looked at him sideways when he made her bring him volumes upon volumes of tomes to study when he was a child. Eventually she used her connections to get him a card to Central's library. The librarians were practically aunts and uncles to him. All of the studying could qualify as agony.

Especially once he had gone to study with Hawkeye. That man knew the very definition of agony right down to the bones of it. He gave Roy no quarter nor did Roy ask for any. Roy knew that Master Hawkeye often thought Roy didn’t understand the gravity inherent in fire alchemy. In some ways he had been oh so right: witness Ishval. However, Roy had never taken it lightly either. He’d always been deadly serious about his craft.

It was the actual use of alchemy that was the ecstasy. The power racing through his body, his will redefining the very fabric of the universe, it was an amazing thrill. Roy couldn’t put into words how alchemy shook him down to his soul or even admit there was an immensely satisfying scream of pleasure echoing deep inside him as he channeled the alchemic transformation. Kimbley was the first alchemist Roy had known who openly acknowledged the nigh-sexual ecstasy performing the transformations could give an alchemist. For Kimbley the explosions were as good as an orgasm.

Roy tried not to think about it because it was just a little bit creepy; because it was a little too close to his own feelings when channeling that power; because then he’d have to think about the times when he was little and performed alchemy or watched the brothers when he first met them.

And now all he needed to do was clap his hands to complete the transformation circle. Could it get better than this?
