I know how you feel somewhat. My immediate family is very... disfunctional. My step mom never liked me and always treated me poorly and my younger sisters are really distant from me. I don't really ever talk to them unless I'm home and I go home twice a year. I'm closest to my Dad, but I'm not even THAT close. I always wish I had a close family that I'd talk to often, want to visit, knew that cared about me, etc. I don't even talk to my family at all minus my Dad via email perhaps twice a month. We're a very distat, unloving family. I just think that when I have my own family one day I'll treat my family the way I wanted to be treated: full of love, happiness, and comfort. So cheer up. At least one person understands how you feel. :(

Centralia is absolutely gorgeous. Not as gorgeous as Danvers was, but still lovely; a few of the of urban exploration sites have some really nice pics.

You are not "some ghetto chick" and don't ever say that again. No one can help the circumstances in which they were born in or the people in their family, but it's up to you to flip the script and get what you want out of life and make it work for you. You seem to be doing this. So why be embarrassed or denigrate yourself over something you have no control over? *hugs*

Austin's family sounds lovely, and their gift-giving is a way to show love and let you know that you are part of the family. Trust me on this one; if they didn't like you, you wouldn't be getting SHIT, lol.

Those pictures are awesome! I love Centralia and dilapidated pictures in general, probably because of SH of course ;D

And try not to feel awkward about being part of Austin's family. My dad's family is basically estranged (except for my grandparents), and my mom's family is super close, and they welcome my dad as their own. If they are as nice as you make them sound, I'm sure they aren't judging you for who you are or where you're from. And while our government blows hardcore, you are not the government or what people hate about America. I'm going to guess that people as nice as you are what people love about America :)
