Title: The Best Deceptions
Fandom: Numb3rs
Pairing: Colby Granger / Megan Reeves
Theme Set: Epsilon
Author's Note: Considering the events of S3 and the finale, I'd say that this is kind of AU. Well, as far as Colby and Megan's relationship goes and how far Megan would go to save it. It was written for my claim at

Just the sense of trust, this sense of commradery between the two of them, and how that changed into love, and the way she just placed herself in his hands. This really was beautiful, hun. Very nice job.

I was a little worried about what people would think, because maybe they'd be all Megan would never do anything like that, ever. And it's true, she was probably just as shocked about Colby working for Chinese as any other person -- I say 'probably' because I have yet to see the finale. *headdesk*
But! I'd like to think that even Megan would, you know, go through all this stuff with someone and start caring about them, even if she didn't mean to love him in the first place. Maybe he was just supposed to be something stupid she did once, an office fling, but Colby just grew on her. And she'd give everything up to hold on to that, because that's what people should do. Isn't it?

Honestly--I thought you were going to get one of them shot for a while there.

Perhaps for one of my 10_random prompts. I'm working on "boy meets girl" right now, and may I say that that nearly writes itself? I think I can. Ugh it's so cute I can't stand it. And I don't even write fluff. :/

That's all I have to say.

Well, unless you mean, Wow. That was so AU and OOC that I won't read her fic again.
I just don't like what I've heard of the finale. Basically, a "oh yeah, btw, Granger works for the Chinese, ttyl" and that just doesn't fly with me. Because I think that if it is true, there has to be so much more to it than just that; Colby can't just be a traitor and double-agent, he's... too dumb. I don't mean it in a way where he's intellectually lacking all around, but in the way where he's just not smart enough to actually be a double-agent. I mean, this is the same guy who said to David, "We're the only white people in here" when they walked into an Asian bar? This is THAT guy?
Megan, on the other hand, I could see her being a double-agent. She has the wherewithal to pull it off. The sheer cunning, if you will, to deal with the day-to-day deception around her friends, lovers, and colleagues. Colby just strikes me as too nice.

And he's coming back as a regular next season, so I have no clue how this is going to work. I'm just not watching the finale. That's my decision on that matter. That way I can live in denial until the S4 opener.

For the record, the Season 3 ender was Part One (although I do not recall seeing the dreaded "To Be Continued" at the end.)
I think the telling line in the episode was Colby telling Megan that he came from five generations of honor, duty and following orders (emphasis mine.) I think that means that whatever he's doing is because he was ordered to do it, and not by the Chinese.
You should watch the episode, because it has some of the best Don and Charlie moments I've seen since season one. Plus it has some lovely Eppes role reversal (Insightful!Don and ActionHero!Charlie have got to be seen to be believed.)

I don't think I've seen you post here before, have I? If not (or even if so, and I just have a crappy memory) welcome. I look forward to reading more of your fic. :-)

I love this fic because it feels right. I'm all for Larry/Megan fluff, but I love this deeper angst that feels more true to Megan's character. And I absolutely love that she decided to run with Colby (I especially like how it echoed the Crystal Hoyle story - I thought that was really clever, even if unintentional - that once she ran with Colby, she had nothing left to lose.)
This is brilliant. I hope to see more!
