I'm planning on getting on Birth Control, and I wanted to see what you guys thought of the pill.  I tried it once, back in college, but it made me gain weight and break out, even though I was using Ortho Tri Cyclin.  This time around, I know there are many more choices.  But since I'm getting married in September, I really really don't want to gain ( Read more... )

i love my IUD (copper so absolutely no hormones).. but it can, and usually does, cause cramping and spotting for the first few months, but for me it was just around my period, and was never so bad that taking a couple advil and having a glass of wine didn't help.

that said every is different, and for me, i exhausted my other options before finding a doctor who agreed that this was the best choice for me.. they don't like to give IUD's to unmarried women (though many are more progressive about that now) *especially* and/or women who haven't had children yet.

how come what?

I'm assuming you mean why they used to restrict who they liked to give them to? Well mainly it has to do with the chance of infection if you catch an STD. And i guess they figured that women who weren't married might be sleeping around, or sleeping with men who slept around, causing higher risk for STDs, and with an IUD infections like chlamydia, gonorrhea, etc can cause PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) which in turn can cause infertility. So they used to figure it was better for women who had had children already because it wouldn't be as big of a deal if all that happened.. that, and women who have had children have a more roomy uterus, and the chance that the body would expel the IUD is lower. Expulsion isn't very common though, and carries no addition risk factors for infertility, but may or may not be painful (the level of discomfort varies from person to person.

Ortho did the saaammme thing to me. 10 pound weight gain, and I broke out all the time.

I'm on Aviane now - much better. No side effects on me. My periods are light and only last 2-3 days. Aviane is just the brand name - any ethinyl estradiol does it. If you get them now, you can always stop taking them right away if you notice breakouts or weight gain... and then come back to your doc for a different prescription.

suzanne and neil don't have kids and they're super happy.
khanh and richard have three and a fourth one is on the way and they're super happy.
whatever floats your boat.

i'm on ortho and i'm not fat, but i think it works differently with different peeps. it was hella worth it though when i was seeing frankie cause you could hit it up anytime you wanted.

now i have to use a friggin condom everytime cause i never know what hoes these guys are hittin. :(

I think you're really not thinking about having kids in the short term, Tina's suggestion of an IUD is a good one! I think after I have my 2nd kid I will get one or have my tubes tied. I don't really want to be taking the pill everyday. Esp since you don't want any accidents, I think IUD is the way to go. I got preg right after I stopped taking the pill. I didn't even get my period ( ... )

I heard preschool was $900/month! omg, that's like 2 car payments!

I think it boils down to me being to selfish, to give up anything for a kid right now. :(

yeah, some places it's as much as like college tuition for a year! and then there's some private schools that are more than a year's tuition at SJSU!

when mdx goes to college, i'm going to have him get an AA then transfer to a state school. i'm hoping that by then, we'll have our houses paid off so that M and i don't have to work as much. then our income can be low enough to qualifiy for fin aid. b/c without the mortgages, we really don't have much expenses....

you give up a LOT when u have a kid. even basic stuff that you never thought you'd miss (like laying in bed watching tv) you won't get to do...
