What! I've flown to and from Hawaii a number of times, most recently less than a year ago. NEVER took an overnight flight from there! I hate a red eye. Nothing but poor sleep and disorientation.

Playing around with Google Flight Search, it looks like Honolulu has a bunch of reasonably-timed flights to the mainland, but Kahalui, Maui has very few, and I recall not having any non-redeye options when I flew from Lihue, Kaua'i a few years ago.

Even from Honolulu, it looks like getting to Denver at a reasonable time is tough: after four to five hours in the air and two hours on time zones, and an hour or so for a layover, you have to start at 7am to get to Denver by 9pm.

Maybe my strategy should be "Get to the west coast, spend the night with a friend."
