I figured rather than send this only to a mailing list I might as well share it with the world of LiveJournal.

This is in reference to Pat Robertson's comments about declining European populations.

I've read that the best correlation is between birth rate and the womens' literacy rate.

I would add that, according to the research scientists at Great Plains Laboratory, and Alan Greenspan, sperm rate has dropped 50% in the last 30 years. About 15% of American men are now sterile. We have fertility clinics and lots of people who can afford to use them, so our population growth is not impacted as much as some places. But I wouldn't go laying the failure of poor populations to explode at the rates previously predicted at the foot of "better birth control". Unless you consider environmental toxicity from organophosphates a form of birth control.
