CWY evaluation, Soulful Sundown... today in a nutshell

Feb 27, 2006 00:23

So yeah. Today was my Canada World Youth evaluation day. Do any of my suitemates remember? No. When I asked to borrow bread from Jane last night to make my lunch, did she wish me well? No. Melinna at least noticed my absence today, but did she even remember what Canada World Youth was? No. Do I expect too much of them? Considering that ( Read more... )

I feel the same about my floormates/housemates. Nobody in this res really cares for one another, they just party together. All of my relationships are shallow and intimidating because a lot of people are really abrasive and obnoxious and insulting. I'm feeling really conflicted about my birthday because it's my first one away from home and it's 19 and everything, and I want to make it special. My floormates were all psyched but then everyone realized that a mutual friend has his 20th in the middle of the week after so they're smushing our birthday's together as an excuse to get extremely drunk. I don't particularly like the guy-- he's basically every student council jock in high school. Good person but he has no qualms with saying really hurtful and non-pc things about people he doesn't like. For instance: "Kat is such a fucking whore bag. She needs to get AIDS." I have a feeling that I'm going to feel isolated on my birthday as a sensitive occasional drinker. It's hard for me to spend the year among people who seem to be content with ( ... )

Yeah... it's hard to find people you really connect with, and it's hard to have anything but superficial relationships with people you don't connect with. I keep noticing how I'm surrounded by people who think at the same level as I do, in the same direction, toward similar but different ends, and come up with conclusions that I agree with. And then suddenly I'll bump into someone who's flagrantly racist, or fucks 5-7 times a day (no joke), and it's like, whoa, I didn't know you people actually exist. It happens a lot in res and university in general, just because of the mix of people thrown together... and so many people who say things that take me aback, thinking "didn't someone teach you that you don't say things like that?" so many insensitive people. like the guy you're supposed to be partying with. I can't beleive he's so ignorant as to wish AIDS on someone. *retch ( ... )

I'm not sure. It didn't sound like it. However, apparently they're quite active over the summers when everyone has more time :P If I hear anything I'll give you a heads up.

Young Adult services are not regular; we've conceived them as we find the energy, time, and people to carry them out. So far, there hasn't been another one planned but, we'll probably start talking about something else soon, and I'd be surprised if we didn't plan something in the upcoming year (we've already had three services).

For the time being, those who go to the service tomorrow will be meeting during hospitality hour to debrief about last week's service. We'll discuss what we liked, didn't like, make general observations, and maybe even start talking about future plans.

Dude!!! This week I met someone who knows you! Her name is Phoebe Ann, and she's from Thunder Bay, and she's on LJ as well but I forget her moniker. Her cousin Kate is dating my friend Tom. It was mental strange to meet her back home. The UUers, they are everywhere.
