Maeve may be morally ambiguous, but it sounds like she did a pretty good deed today, matching the animals up. Assuming she set up good matches, of course.

She's a witch -- she likes animals. Actually, she likes people too, she just doesn't like them more than she likes animals, and she doesn't try to make beings which are not human conform to human ways of thought, which tends to annoy human-type people.
