Yeah misogyny is slash fandom is a huge problem...tbh it's a huge problem in fandom in general. I remember some essays about it being linked at my big, wanktastic In Defense of Lily Evans essay.
And Ugh I'm sick of just about all the major relationships in Skins atm.
I remember some essays about it being linked at my big, wanktastic In Defense of Lily Evans essay. Yeah, the Lily hate is BAD. Unfortunately to an extent I'm kind of used to seeing some of this kind of bullshit everywhere, but somehow as I've been getting into the Holmes fandom I've found it especially shocking there and I'm just like Seriously, could you be any more blatant? Will you listen to what you're saying?
7. I'm officially pretty tired of Naomi/Emily being over-praised like they're the greatest thing to ever happen in Skins and one of the bestest ships like in the history of ever.
I love you for stating this, like you have no idea. They're a nice couple to watch one in awhile, but I don't get the huge appeal of them either. Maybe I just say this because I'm such a JJ/Emily shipper that it's ridiculous. I think a large portion of their appeal is that the fans have influenced the writers, because S4 (as far as I've spoiler read) is going to feature lots of Naomi/Emily.
I agree, S3 is my favourite as well. I could just relate to the characters better as a whole, I think. And I too, ship Freddie/Effy - we are the minority...
Hee, I'm glad somebody agrees. And yes, I definitely get the idea that the writers are being influenced by the fans when it comes to Naomi/Emily. When I saw the term "Naomily" actually used in an announcement on the official site I was like O_O wuuuut.
Yay, I have at least have one Freffy shipper on my flist! That's more than I would have expected, lol.
Fanfic readers are crazy. They judge every story based on where the romance is. I get that comment on my fic all the time, too, with comments that the plot isn't progressing simply because E/B aren't progressing. It is frustrating.
6. Between this, my own fic, and other feedback I've read pretty much everywhere, it makes me laugh that I was ever nervous about starting to write slash. Strictly monogamous romantic ideals are clearly a much huger demon to deal with in the writing world than heteronormativity, and it's got me seriously bummed, man. WMTM and the entire Twilight series are simply misunderstood if you can't accept the possibility of being in love with more than one person, and I feel like it's the root of people's problems with Bella particularly in your fic.
7. People seem to like Naomi/Emily because they are cute, attractive, fashionable, and lesbians. There. I said it. Theirs is a story of self-acceptance sooner than it is a love story. There, I said it. Are there any actual love stories on Skins? I feel like the answer is no.
but I can't help but be a little miffed when people leave me reviews on fics that are completed with nothing to say but "Great, I hope you'll continue this" Isn't that always fun? Back when I used to post on FF.net 99% of the time this happened over there. That and the horrible posting interface turned me off that archive big time.
