Title: Story Of Us [1/?]
Author: FloweryMisha
Pairing: KiWoon
Warning: BoyxBoy love. Enough said.
Summary: Kikwang’s in the fourth phase of his love life: Friends. Dating. Engaged. Marriage.

It was hard to be a Son.

And Kikwang knew it, since the first time he agreed to be Dongwoon’s boyfriend.

Their relationship wasn’t smooth at all. They fought, they argued, they had problems-just like what couples do. He just never thought it’d be this complicated.

Mrs. Son asked Kikwang to learn. She didn’t ask him much, she just asked him to act more gracefully-just like a Son. Dongwoon frowned at the request, saying that Kikwang didn’t need to be a part of that, but his mother frowned at him back, disagreed. She said, now that Kikwang’s a Son, a part of the family, he has to. So that he would know what to do when he meets the other Son-or their family’s friends.

Now that Kikwang’s a Son.

Kikwang knew Mrs. Son didn’t mean to say it that way, but on the inside, he felt sad. He wondered if he actually worth it, and did Dongwoon’s parents really gave him their blessing? Did she dislike him? Sometimes Kikwang found Mrs. Son glanced at their parents like they’re...not the same level as her, but he tried to be positive, maybe it was just his imagination.

But day by day, he felt burden by the thought, especially since he’s been avoiding the Son’s family meeting. Everyone was dying to meet Dongwoon’s husband, since their marriage was just held simply at the church, with both of their parents as the witnesses, and Doojoon as Dongwoon’s best man. It was exactly the way Kikwang’s mother wanted. Simple, holy, and beautiful. While on the other side, Dongwoon’s mother wanted to make it as exclusive as possible, but Dongwoon refused. He said to his mother that he only needed to say “I Do” and officially having Kikwang as his husband, instead of having a big celebration.

Dongwoon’s mother pouted and said, it’s so not a Son. But it was her son’s decision, so she agreed half heartedly. She knew once Dongwoon decided, then the result will stay the same.

But Kikwang knew that it was, somehow, his responsibility.

Narsha was really nice to him. But sometimes, when they talked, or when they walked side by side, he knew that he was no match to the beautiful female. Narsha came from a wealthy family, unlike Kikwang. The way she walked, or the way she talked really showed that she’s intelligent and high class. Narsha really matched Dongha, they looked so great together. Just like a prince and a princess in a fairytale.

While he was...

Kikwang shook his head at the thought. Even though Dongwoon had been telling him that his father was a hard worker, and wasn’t born in a rich family like Narsha-noona, but what difference does it make? The Son family is rich now, end of story. It doesn’t matter what kind of backgrounds before. They are rich, and people looked up to them.

So when Dongwoon’s mother asked him for the umpteenth time, Kikwang gave up and nodded. She rarely comes to their apartment, and Kikwang was thankful for it, he wouldn’t know what to do if she suddenly showed up and commented on how poor Kikwang decorated their place. But she did show up suddenly today, and Kikwang couldn’t stop being comfortable as her eyes wandered wildly across the room. Unfortunately Dongwoon was still at work-it seemed to be the plan, asking Kikwang when Dongwoon’s not home-and Kikwang was confused.

Except the answer is “yes”, she wouldn’t budge from her seat. Gulping, he nodded slowly, waving a white flag inwardly and she stared at him in relief.

Kikwang could only hope that Dongwoon wouldn’t be mad at him for saying yes.

It was hard to be a Son.

And Kikwang knew it, the moment he said yes to Dongwoon’s mother.

A beautiful woman named Gina was his teacher. She taught him how to eat dinner properly at the table, especially when it comes to a French dinner. Kikwang’s eyes widened as he counted several bowls, knives, spoons and forks-she explained them one by one to him. One’s for appetizer, one’s for the soup, one’s for the main course, and one’s for the dessert. Kikwang almost fainted.

He was tired from learning those lessons at dining table for a whole week that Kikwang ended up buying hamburgers for dinner and ate them with his hands. It was heaven, Kikwang thought, before remembering that he’s a Son now, so he should act like one... That night, Kikwang ate his hamburger using a fork and a knife.

Dongwoon was half worried and half angry, he just wanted Kikwang to be himself, but the latter smiled kindly and told him it’s okay.

Gina was such a good and nice teacher anyway. She taught him to waltz, how to talk in a appropriate manner, how to stand in a high class kind of way, etc, etc, etc, etc, the list was too much, Kikwang failed to take notice anymore. Fortunately, he’s a fast learner, and he impressed Gina several times. She was proud to have him as a student. She said one day they’ll come in handy, and Kikwang believed her.

And then, that one day comes.

Dongwoon’s cousin’s gonna have a ball and he and Kikwang were invited. Dongwoon was too lazy to come, but his mother’s been insisting that he has to. He never came anyway, and Dongwoon knew, this time, his family had a hidden intention. They were curious about Kikwang’s appearance, wondering what’s so good about Kikwang that made Dongwoon decided to marry him, someone from lower class. Or so he heard.

Kikwang was nervous, and he kept on practicing those things Gina taught him in front of the mirror. Suddenly he was hugged from behind, and Dongwoon kissed his nape softly. Kikwang blushed at the sudden affection.

“W-Woonie?”, he nervously whispered. “I-I’m practicing...”

“Don’t force yourself,” Dongwoon mumbled to his hair. “I like you the way you are. Just...don’t change if you don’t want to.”

Kikwang smiled shyly, loving the attention his husband gave him and squeezed his hand comfortingly.

“I’m okay...” He waited for a moment, but Dongwoon didn’t seem like he’s gonna let him go. “Woonie?”

“Just... Stop practicing. I miss you.”

Kikwang gasped as Dongwoon pushed him gently to the bed. He blushed as Dongwoon then kissed him passionately, not giving him a chance to talk-or even to breathe. And as Dongwoon pulled his boxer down, Kikwang gave up completely because he knew, his husband wouldn’t let him practice anymore tonight.

It was hard to be a Son.

And Kikwang knew it, when he arrived on the luxurious hotel.

Suddenly his confidence vanished to God knows where, his stomach was filled with uninvited butterflies, and his hands were cold. Kikwang took a deep breath and braved himself, but gulped nervously as they walked into the ballroom, and people were everywhere. High class people. Dongha and Narsha easily adapted and chatted with everyone. If he could, Kikwang would just sink and disappear...but Dongwoon’s grip on his hand was comforting.

Soon enough, people began to turn their eyes at the KiWoon couple, glancing down at their entwining hands and Kikwang could hear soft murmuring.

Is that him?

Dongwoon’s husband?

They look...

A middle aged man greeted Dongwoon and pulled him for a hug, and their hands got separated. Kikwang was left behind. Dongwoon looked over his shoulder, but Kikwang shook his head and forced a smile, as if to say that he’s okay, and that Dongwoon should go greet everyone first. Slowly he made way to the corner of the room, keeping himself from the crowd. Kikwang leaned his back against the wall and stared absent mindedly at the people.

He glanced at a food and tried his best to remember the name. Gina already taught me...oh, come on Kikwang, remember, what was the name? Ah! Caviar!

Suddenly, two women came and smiled at him, making him snapped back to reality.

“Hi. Dongwoon’s husband, aren’t you?”

Kikwang blinked and smiled back, even though he felt that the smiles weren’t true. “Yes...”

One of the girl stared at him from head to toe like he was a slut and shook her head. “What did Dongwoon see from him?”

“I know, right, he’s not even rich,” the other one clicked her tongue. “Was Dongwoon out of his mind? Or was he just desperate? Of all the people he could choose...”

Slowly the smile on Kikwang’s lips faded. He bit his lip and looked down. What should I do? He expected this kinda thing to happen, yet he didn’t know what to do.

“Look at his ring,” the one who clicked her tongue before grabbed his hand harshly. “This is an expensive ring. You don’t fit wearing this. Shall we take it off?”

Kikwang's eyes widened in shock. This ring connects me to Woonie. He snapped her hand away and glared defensively at both girls. “This is mine.”

Her eyes widened in surprised and she looked angry. “Why, you-“

“Is everything okay here?”

“N-Narsha-noona!”, they stuttered as Narsha stepped closer and faked a smile. “H-How are you, Noona?”

Narsha frowned and put her hand on Kikwang’s shoulder. “Are you okay, Kikwang?”

Kikwang could only nod silently. He was still shocked at the fact that the girls tried to take his ring off. Kikwang wanted to be alone at the moment, so he told Narsha that he needed to go to the bathroom. She smiled at him encouragingly, even though she knew something was off.

***

It was hard to be a Son.

Kikwang knew it, but why did he feel like he couldn’t take it anymore?

He sobbed silently to his hands in one of the bathroom stall. The rest room was empty. Kikwang wished no one would walk in right now, or even if someone did, they’d just finish their intentions and get the hell out of there. He felt sad, so sad, that his shoulders were shaking. Kikwang knew it was a mistake coming here in the first place. He should’ve just refused what Dongwoon’s mother asked...

When Kikwang finally stopped crying, he realized it must’ve been quite some time and Dongwoon’s probably looking for him. He tried to calm himself, but his tears wouldn’t seem to stop. Kikwang felt so hurt at people’s accusations. Assumptions. Comments.

Why did Dongwoon choose him?

How should he expected Dongwoon to answer it when they’ve been in a relationship for almost four years? He meant, it’s rational for someone to get married after dating for such a long time, right? It’s also rational if the relationship ended even after four years, but no, Dongwoon still chose him. Dongwoon still loves him. Dongwoon still wanted Kikwang to marry him.

Was it wrong?

Was it a mistake?

Was it a disgrace to the family?

So he came from a not so rich family. Did Dongwoon have to marry someone from a rich family too? So he wasn’t beautiful. Did Dongwoon have to marry someone as beautiful as the almighty Jang Hyunseung who broke half of the school’s hearts because he decided to date Yong Junhyung? So he didn’t know how to act like a high class person. Did Dongwoon have to marry a prince, then?
Kikwang was so distressed by his own thoughts. And whatever it is that he’s thinking, they all always go back to one ultimate question:

Is he worth it?

Someone entered the rest room and Kikwang held his breath. He wiped the tears away from his face and the person who just entered cleared his throat.

“Baby?”

Great. Dongwoon. Perfect timing.

“Y-yes?”, Kikwang’s voice cracked.

“Are you okay in there?”

He wanted to say no, but he knew he shouldn’t. So instead Kikwang answered, “Yes...”

“Kwangie,” Dongwoon’s voice was soft, but firm. He stepped closer to the closed stall. “Don’t lie to me.”

Kikwang almost cried again but he quickly covered his mouth with a hand. Oh God, why is he able to read me so easily?

“Please open the door. Let me see you.”

“I-I-I... I can’t.”

“Why?”

“I just...I just don’t want you to see me in such state.”

Dongwoon snorted. “Baby, don’t be ridiculous. Open up.”

Kikwang exhaled loudly, wiping his tears again before slowly unlocking the door. When the door was opened, Dongwoon had a figured look on his face, as if he knew all along what his husband was doing inside. Kikwang was still sitting on the toilet seat, looking embarassed. The taller male extended a hand to his beloved, before pulling him up and embracing Kikwang tightly.

“Let’s go home,” Dongwoon said quietly.

“I-it’s okay, I’ll go by myself...”

“No,” Dongwoon broke the hug and gazed at Kikwang’s eyes deeply. “We’re going home.”

***

As they arrived at their apartment, Kikwang was tired from everything and as soon as he changed into pajamas, he spread himself on the bed. Faintly, Kikwang heard Dongwoon’s voice from outside the bedroom, telling Narsha noona that they went home earlier because Kikwang didn’t feel well. Sleepily, he closed his eyes, but he wasn’t asleep yet, he could still feel the noises Dongwoon made and when the taller male positioned himself to face Kikwang on the bed, he opened his eyes slowly.

Dongwoon stroked his hair softly, sometimes caressing his cheek. “Go to sleep. I’m watching you.”

Kikwang felt his chest tightened and kissed Dongwoon’s hand lovingly. He felt so loved. And he loves this man so damn much. Kikwang just wanted to think that no matter what awful things other people had told him, it doesn’t matter. He knew Dongwoon loved him truly, and that’s what’s important. Their love was pure, and nothing’s gonna change that fact.

“Baby...I’m sorry,” Kikwang whispered, still enjoying Dongwoon’s hand on his hair.

“What for?”

“We left early... It was your family’s...”

Kikwang’s eyes fluttered in attempt to keep his eyes open, which he failed to do so. He could feel Dongwoon drew him closer to his arms and felt his husband taking a deep breath.

“I think,” Dongwoon said. “You need to remember that you are my family.”

With that, Dongwoon met their lips softly, and waited for Kikwang to fall asleep. He kept on pressing his lips to the shorter male’s until he felt Kikwang’s breathing was steady, a sign that he’s asleep already. Dongwoon pulled away, but their lips stayed near. He kept on kissing those full lips slightly. Dongwoon sighed in relief as he noticed that Kikwang slept peacefully and closed his eyes.

I will protect you.

Forever.

Because this...is a story of us.

End.
