Title: The Person Behind [1/1]
Author: FloweryMisha
Pairing: KiWoon
Warning: BoyxBoy love. Enough said.
Summary: Behind every great man is a great woman. Behind Son Dongwoon’s success, there’s Son Kikwang.
Author’s Note: I have no idea what this is. I understand nothing about politics so forgive me if it’s a bit off... OTL (and it’s not a birthday fic yay me) AND PLEASE, NO TRANSLATIONS ALLOWED!

Son Dongwoon was feared in the political world.

The young man made a huge success by being the youngest person in history who climbed onto the top ten politician in South Korea. He was a handsome, brilliant man that managed to capture half of the citizens’ heart simply with his charming smile. His perfomance was no longer doubted when he was elected to be the vice president of one of the most influenced parties.

Dongwoon’s face soon adorned the cover of magazines.

His private life was exposed. His love life was revealed. His smile caused the girls (and a lot of guys, too) to swoon and squeal over him, but Dongwoon wasn’t interested in all of the temptation. Because he had given his heart to his childhood friend, a pretty male named Lee Kikwang whom he married last summer. They had been together for so long and for him, Kikwang was the only person who understood him the best.

Dongwoon never had any intention to expose his husband. Their marriage was kept a secret at first-not because he was afraid people would find out about his sexual orientation, but it was more like Dongwoon didn’t want Kikwang to endure the trouble of being a politician’s spouse (and when the news was shared to the world, Dongwoon gained a mass of supporter trailing behind him). It was unavoidable, of course. The paparazzis were keen to get a picture of Kikwang because everyone was curious about his appearance. Was he good looking? Was he tall? Was he smart?

No one really knew.

Son Dongwoon’s path in the political world was clear.

He ruled the world. Everyone looked up to him because he was capable of making a wise decision.

He kicked ass.

His bargaining position and his honesty made everyone turned to follow him. The look of doubts were starting to be replaced with the look of trust. The snorts of dislike like ‘what can a man of his age does?’ soon turned into ‘we should never judge a book by its cover’. Dongwoon had proved that he could do great, despite his young age.

Even so, there would always be people who disagree.

Dongwoon was quite stubborn and Kikwang had faith that the male wasn’t going to lose easily in any kind of situation. His husband wasn’t the type who gave in easily to any kind of threat. Anyone who had something against him may step to the front and tell it directly to his face. He would listen intently, he would argue if needed, and sometimes he would explain why he made such decision based on a damn good reason.

It was alright if they attacked Dongwoon.

Because Dongwoon would never lose.

Sadly, most of his enemies targeted his spouse.

There were times when Dongwoon fell into a deep panic because his husband was kidnapped and in exchange of his safety, he needed to resign from the parliament or to fulfill the amount of money the kidnappers had asked for. Fortunately, their bodyguards were always able to save Kikwang on time. As much as he wished that it would never happen again, it did. It was traumatizing enough for the pretty male to be kidnapped once, and he needed to see a psychologist when it happened a few more times.

One time, Kikwang was bleeding because he got shot on his shoulder and Dongwoon gave the kidnapper no mercy. He ordered Junhong to kill anyone who hurt Kikwang and the boy obeyed without a word. So when the young (yet deadly) bodyguard arrived at the scene only to find his master’s spouse shivering in pain, a hand clutching his bleeding wound, he killed the kidnappers at the first sight. It happened so quick in the blink of an eye that Kikwang didn’t have the chance to close his eyes (he had to see another psychologist after that because he had just witnessed how a brain scattered from the bullet).

When the other bodyguards had arrived to escort Kikwang, they made it looked like there had been a battle of gunshots and Junhong killed the kidnappers merely for self defense.

The police couldn’t arrest him because of the lack of evidence.

(It was scary to think that Dongwoon could do anything with just a flick of his fingers).

Kikwang got hurt was probably the most terrifying moment in his life.

By the time they got to the hospital, his husband had lost so much blood that Dongwoon was afraid it would be too late to save him. Thankfully the Lord above still loved the pretty male, because Kikwang survived miraculously even with the huge amount of blood loss.

It was then that the politician thought of separating. Because it killed him to see Kikwang crying hysterically the moment he jolted up awake, exclaiming that he was scared as hell. Because there was always a possibility that Kikwang would get hurt more than just a bullet in his shoulder and it pained him to see the male writhing when the effect of the morphine had wore off. Because only that way, Kikwang would be safe.
But it never across the latter’s mind to do such thing.

Because the moment I said ‘I do’, was the moment when I decided that I would be with you until death really do us part.

Was what Kikwang weakly said when he finally calmed down after sobbing in Dongwoon’s chest.

Dongwoon grabbed the male’s hands tightly because he didn’t know what to respond. He felt a bit selfish for feeling relieved of Kikwang’s sincere answer, because he knew he wouldn’t be able to live without him if the pretty male suddenly said yes to his suggestion. Because he knew he wasn’t going to be able to let go even if he ever agreed to leave him. Because Kikwang was the ultimate reason Dongwoon had made it all this time.

It was because of his support and unconditional love that Dongwoon managed to survive.

***

It was one of those days when Dongwoon had to attend an important meeting.

Kikwang was used to this. He was used to the sudden change of plans. He was used to the sudden soft yet firm knocking on their bedroom door at ungodly hours, indicating that something came up and they had to get ready. Dongwoon was alright if Kikwang didn’t go with him, but the latter felt like he wasn’t being a good husband if he did (because Dongwoon was helpless all by himself, especially with the arranging of clothes he needed to do in his luggage. That, or the fact that he wouldn’t be able to sleep without Kikwang in his arms).

This time, the meeting took place in another city. They took an early plane in the morning and Dongwoon mumbled sleepily to himself that one day, he would buy Kikwang a private jet so that they wouldn’t be bothered with all of the shits of having to check in early.

Dongwoon went straight to the city hall as soon as they arrived and Kikwang was sent to the hotel. They got into a small fight because Kikwang wanted Dongwoon to accompany him first to the hotel, but he couldn’t. Usually they would say goodbye with the sweetest smile and the sweetest kiss, but not that morning. Kikwang sulked and refused to be touched by his husband.

They were booked the largest and the most expensive suite available and Kikwang sighed in resignation. Even though he knew Dongwoon got the money, but he always preferred a small room that only consisted of a king size bed. But knowing Minhyuk, who had been Dongwoon’s personal assistant for over a year, who was just dandy and obsessed with perfection, of course he would book them the most expensive suite. Of course.

Kikwang hated formalities.

And his bodyguards knew this.

So when he decided to take a walk around the city all by himself, he knew he wasn’t exactly alone because Dongwoon would always have his bodyguards trailing behind him. Usually he wouldn’t really mind as long as they weren’t being too obvious (but it was kind of hard to act casual when he had a few suspicious looking men with suits and shades walking a few metres behind him). But it had been a few years, so yeah, Kikwang was kind of used to it.

Sometimes he wondered what it would be if he had decided to receive Jintaek’s proposal instead of Dongwoon’s (definitely no bodyguards, that was for sure). His days would probably filled with peace because Jintaek was an ordinary lecturer at a famous university in Seoul. He would probably end up listening stories about how students these days opted for an easier way to graduate instead of stories about how to get rid of poverty and how to legal same sex marriage in their country.

But he was destined to be a Son Kikwang instead of a Hong Kikwang.

And not even once Kikwang ever regretted his decision.

Dongwoon had shown bright talent in politics ever since he was little. He had always told Kikwang what he would do if he ever become one. Kikwang would always listen with a wide smile, because whenever Dongwoon spoke about his passion, it was when he became the best (and it got him to think that he was got the second place in the younger male’s heart because Dongwoon already got politic as his first wife).

Kikwang pressed a hand against the window as he peeked inside of a store. His hand stayed on the cool surface as he gazed to his reflection, just to make sure Zelo or the others were around. There were none. Kikwang noticed a few people-a few people that he knew weren’t Dongwoon’s bodyguards-staring right back at him with unreadable expression. He gulped. They could be paparazzis...

Or worse, they could be the people who wanted to harm Dongwoon.

Even though Dongwoon didn’t want him to be exposed, but it was like they knew his face already. Sometimes he caught a few people taking his pictures randomly at the street. Kikwang realized sooner or later his face would be shown to the world and he had to accept it. The pretty male bit his lower lip a bit too hard and shook his head hard. He should probably go back to the hotel. Kikwang finally glanced over his shoulder to look for Junhong. He felt safer whenever the boy was around, but...

He swallowed down all of his nervousness as he realized Junhong wasn’t in his sight.

Did Zelo not notice I was leaving?

Kikwang tucked his hands casually into his pockets and turned around to walk back to the direction of the hotel. He tried to act normal like nothing was wrong, but then his feeling just told him that he was being followed. Kikwang felt his knees wobbling as he quickened his steps and the next thing he knew, he was half running.

Woonie.

Kikwang’s heart beat erratically fast like it was going to explode. Fear was starting to grow within him because all of the bad memories flashed back instantly and he gasped. He didn’t even remember which way to go back to the hotel anymore. He tried running into the crowd, but it seemed like he was running to the wrong direction because it was a dead end ahead of him. Kikwang halted abruptly and he wanted to scream for help, but it was too late.

The last thing he remembered was pain on his head and everything turned black.

***

He didn’t know how long had it been since he fainted.

Kikwang slowly gained his consciousness and breathed deeply like he had just woke up from hibernating. The male blinked his eyes sleepily, trying to adjust with the surrounding before slowly realizing that he was in an unknown room. Once his blurred vision became clear, he squinted his eyes in order to take a good look because the room was awfully dim. The male threw a glance around and his mouth went dry.

It seemed like he was brought to a motel.

Kikwang wrinkled his nose in distaste because the room smelled a bit funny and judging from the furnitures and the bedsheet, it was cheap as well. He immediately looked down to his clothes and breathed in relief. At least whoever it was didn’t have the intention for one night stand. Kikwang sat up and tried to get off of the bed, only to find that his hand was tied to the bed. He stared at the rope in disbelief and attempted to untie it with his free hand. He was definitely kidnapped. The male felt a surge of panic rushing to his mind and whimpered in fear.

Woonie.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”

Kikwang stopped moving as he glanced over his shoulder to the source of the voice. His heart pounded loudly against his ribcage as their eyes met.

His kidnapper.

“Who-who are you?” Kikwang whispered.

The male only stared in response.

Usually Kikwang wouldn’t have this kind of thought, but it was kind of funny because after all of the kidnapping he had been through, this one was the first. Usually the kidnappers would wear something on their faces so they wouldn’t be recognizable. A mask was one of the options. But this one...he was different. He wore nothing to cover his face and Kikwang couldn’t help but feeling that the male was quite handsome. Quite, because his husband definitely won when it came to looks.

His light purple hair shone under the cheap lamp.

Kikwang gulped before embracing himself to repeat the question. “Who...are you?”

The male tilted his head to a side coolly, still not answering. He looked nonchalant. He looked like he didn’t give a damn about his questions. His eyes contained no emotion, those black orbs were definitely empty. It was definitely the eyes of a cold blooded killer.

A murderer.

Kikwang shivered.

The purple haired male leaned slightly forward, still with his emotionless face. “Some people called me Joker...”

Kikwang’s heart almost stopped beating.

He had been reading the news about the media labeling a certain killer with the same nickname lately. The killer-who earned the nickname Joker-was definitely good at doing his job because most of his victims died instantly without suffering-wait, it wasn’t the time to praise him. Kikwang went pale at the sight of the skinny male standing in the middle of the room and tilting his head like nothing was wrong. His eyes went down to the skinny figure. He didn’t look strong enough, but then again, Junhong also looked weak while he actually wasn’t at all.

Kikwang searched for a hint of mocking in the other male’s face. The male could be a person who just happened to need a lot of money and he agreed to make him unconscious and bring him to the deserted motel and then he would trade him for money to the person who hired him-

Dammit. I need to stop watching those soap operas. But the difference is that it’s really happening...

“J-Joker?”

“Lee,” Joker said and paused for a moment. “No, Son Kikwang.”

Kikwang sucked his breath deeply and held the tears that were threatening to spill over. Maybe he should tell him that he got the wrong person. Maybe he just happened to look like Son Kikwang.

“You’re more beautiful in person,” Joker continued and sent Kikwang’s thoughts flying everywhere. “Than in the pictures.”

Okay, maybe he wasn’t a killer. Maybe he was just a random guy who fell in love with him and stalked him through candid pictures-

“I never thought someone would hire me to kill a pretty person like you.”

Okay, he was a fucking killer.

“Wh-what did I do?” Kikwang stuttered sadly even though he knew the answer already. “Why-why do you want to kill me?”

Joker gave him a blank, a really blank stare. Kikwang felt like crying under his gaze because it was piercing through him and he just wanted his Dongwoon right now. The Joker pursed his lips thoughtfully before licking them in a painfully slow motion.

“There’s a chance for you to live, though.”

Kikwang gasped softly.

“But it depends on your husband.”

“W-Woonie?”

“My employer said that if he agreed to sign the petition to not allow the rocket launching to North Korea, I will have to kill you.”

Kikwang’s mind went numb. He froze for a moment before finally able to open his mouth to say something. “Wh-what...?”

“Apparently your husband is at the city hall at the moment with the others to discuss a thing or two about it...” Joker’s eyes drifted away to the wall as he spoke. A simple smile tugged on his lips. “My employer is funny though. I usually never accepted this kind of job, but it was interesting. I mean, why bother to have a chat with the person you’re going to kill anyway? But then he paid me lots of money and I agreed to do it his way, so...” The male stopped talking as he rolled one of his sleeve up to his elbow. “He-or she, who cares-also said that I’m allowed to touch you so that you will cry-“

Kikwang frantically thought the Joker was very textbook. He cried in fear as the other male stepped closer to the bed. “No-no, don’t touch me!”

“It’s not sex,” Joker rolled his other sleeve with a snort. “I won’t fuck you.”

“No!” Kikwang’s eyes were starting to get teary as he scooted back if it was even possible. His back was already pressed against the headboard.

“Please, Joker, please!”

“It will only take a moment. You’ll feel good.”

“No, no, please, please don’t touch me!”

“It would be better if you just quiet and give in, if you really care about your life.”

“B-but you’ll-“

“I think this is the time where you should shut up, Son Kikwang.”

“-you’ll hurt the baby!!”

The Joker stopped on his track when they were just an inch apart and Kikwang burst out crying. Kikwang sobbed helplessly to his free hand. There was a hint of confusion in his eyes before he turned expressionless again. After a moment, the hired killer took a step back reluctantly with a judging gaze to Kikwang’s stomach. “...the baby?”

Kikwang nodded desperately as he sobbed. He looked up to the Joker in tears and his arm covered his own stomach protectively. “I’m... I’m pregnant.”

The purple haired male narrowed his eyes. “...nonsense.”

“Why don’t you buy me a test pack and I’ll prove it to you?” Kikwang snapped angrily between his tears. His expression morphed into guilt a second later as he brought a hand to his face. “I’m-I’m sorry...”

“...”

Kikwang kept on sobbing for a while and the Joker stayed still on his track. When he finally calmed down, the pretty male looked down to his stomach and broke into a sad smile. “...so much for wanting Woonie to find out first...”

The Joker frowned at his statement. “What do you mean? He doesn’t know yet?”

Kikwang sheepishly shook his head and hung his head. “He’s been so busy lately that I... I don’t know how to tell him.”

Joker stood still in the middle of the room before finally grabbing a chair nearby and plopped himself on it. Kikwang finally saw a bit of emotion breaking on his face, although it wasn’t very obvious. One thing for sure, it was curiosity.

“...but how did you...?”

Kikwang bit his lip hesitantly. He stared at the other male like it was probably not the brightest idea to tell him, and to think that he wasn’t a family member-but someone that had a very large possibility to be the one to end his life. Kikwang felt like crying again, but he managed to fight the tears away. He softly sighed and closed his eyes with a frown, trying to remember how.

“We agreed to do the experiment. Woonie wants a kid so much that he’s willing to do anything to try. It wasn’t a going to be a painful one, they said. All I needed to do was to take pills and...and got engaged in a sexual activity on the dates they jot down.”

The Joker’s face went blank.

“Honestly, I never thought it would work, I mean come on, men aren’t supposed to give birth...” Kikwang whispered before shaking his head. “I...I was starting to have morning sickness but I thought it was nothing. Maybe I was sick. So I kept it all inside and I told no one about this. But...I’ve been throwing up a lot and yet I craved for food like there was no tomorrow. It just occured to me a week ago that I might be carrying another creature inside of me. Another creature...that was created to be the love of Woonie...and me.”

The room was filled with an uncomfortable silence. The only thing that was heard was the soft sob from Kikwang as he wiped his tears away with the back of his hand.

“Our baby.”

The Joker puffed his cheeks for a second before sighing. “I usually don’t kill women,” he stated as-a-matter-of-factly.

Kikwang looked offended. “Hey! I’m-I’m not a woman...”

“You’re pregnant. That makes you the same.”

Kikwang sagged weakly on the bed. The Joker got a point on that...

“So what are you going to do?” he asked sadly. “Are you going to...kill me?”

“A job is a job, so we’ll wait until the meeting is over,” the purple haired male said as he turned on the television and Kikwang gasped in surprise because it displayed his husband being in a conference room with a few other people. They seemed to be in an argument but Kikwang couldn’t make what they were talking about because there was no sound. “My suggestion? Try to enjoy the last hours of your life.”

Kikwang grimaced darkly.

***

For someone who was famous for his killing, the Joker was surely mild.

He only gave Kikwang a warning once that if he ever moved even an inch from his current position, he would die instantly without feeling any pain. Kikwang obeyed wordlessly even though it was almost impossible for him to not move. Minutes slowly turned to hour. His fear slowly dissipated into thin air and it evolved into a feeling of boredom. They had been doing nothing for the past hour-no talking, not even moving. It amazed him how the Joker was able to stay still and did nothing and had his eyes fixed on the screen the whole time.

Kikwang used the moment to think.

He regretted not telling Dongwoon sooner about his pregnancy. Had he known, his husband probably would forbid him from going. And none of this wouldn’t have happened. Kikwang sighed in exasperation. What if...what if he wouldn’t make it this time? What if something terrible happened and the last thing they did was fight?

Kikwang dozed off and jerked awake when he felt something suddenly was shoved onto his lap. The pretty male cracked his eyes open and his eyes widened at the sight of a grocery bag. “Th-this...?”

“You need a lot of strength.”

Kikwang blinked his eyes in confusion. “Ex-excuse me...?”

“You’re counted for two,” the Joker said with a shrug. “You get hungry and tired easily.”

Kikwang speechlessly shifted his eyes back to the paper bag on his lap. It was new to him and he didn’t know what to say. Would a killer do something nice like this? It was really weird. It was as if the Joker wasn’t a killer at all.

Maybe it’s because I’m pregnant...

“Th-thank you,” Kikwang whispered but it was clear that hesitation was all over his face.

“Don’t worry,” the purple haired male replied knowingly. “They’re not poisoned.”

Kikwang felt embarrassed for no reason. The sight of food made his stomach grumbling and he carefully reached for a sandwich. He didn’t feel like eating, but the Joker was right. Kikwang munched the food and his eyes never left the other male in the room. The Joker settled back on his chair, focusing his direction at the screen. Kikwang felt a bit strange at the sight before him. He didn’t look like a cold blooded killer at all. But if there was one thing that he learned from Dongwoon, it was ‘never judge the book by its cover’. The male looked unharmed, but who knew? Afterall, the media labeled him ‘Joker’ not for nothing.

“You...” Kikwang tried to fracture the awkward calm between them. “You seem...experienced...”

“Of course. I’ve been killing people since-“

“I mean,” Kikwang interrupted. “This...whole pregnancy thing.”

The Joker casted a glance down on the floor before turning his head to the male on the bed. “...I have a kid.”

Kikwang gulped the rest of his sandwich and raised his eyebrows. “You-you do?” He got a brief nod as an answer. “A son...?” He got another nod. “I-I see... No wonder you understand this...phase. So, um... Where’s his mother now?”

“I killed her.”

Kikwang’s jaw dropped. It wasn’t the answer he expected. “You...what?”

“She was a spy,” the Joker grimly said. “She played her part so well, I couldn’t believe she was the intruder.”

Kikwang raised a hand to his chest. Betrayal. “Oh my God,” he whispered. “That must’ve been awful.”

The Joker opened his mouth to say something but quickly closed it again as he narrowed his eyes to the screen. Kikwang immediately followed his gaze and he saw one of the guards approached his husband. The Joker smirked. “It’s starting.”

“Wh-what is?”

“My employer has called your husband.”

Kikwang held his breath because he knew the Joker was telling the truth. The guard seemed to whisper something on Dongwoon’s ear and the latter’s expression turned pale. His husband seemed shocked. Fear flooded back to Kikwang as he bit his lower lip. “Woonie.”

The Joker stood up abruptly from his seat. He reached for a phone in his pocket before throwing it carelessly onto the bed. “Call him.”

Kikwang reluctantly stared at the phone. “I-I don’t want to.”

“You have to,” the Joker pointed a gun to his forehead all of a sudden and Kikwang froze. He didn’t even hear the movement of the killer taking out his gun. “Or you’ll die.”

“Wh-what do you want me to say?”

“Tell him to agree to the rocket launching.”

“Are you out of your mind?” Kikwang said with his lips trembling. He didn’t dare to look up because the gun was pointed to his brain and it scared the hell out of him. The memories of the kidnapper’s brain scattered everywhere caused by Junhong’s bullet replayed in his mind. “If...if he does, it means war.”

“Like I care.”

“If-if the war ever starts, your son, he-“ Kikwang yelped as the Joker took a step closer. “He won’t be able to live a peaceful life!”

“Don’t you dare bring my son into this,” the killer said warningly. “Call him.”

“I don’t-“

“Do it,” the Joker pressed the tip of the gun to Kikwang’s forehead mercilessly and the latter almost fainted. “Now.”

Kikwang shut his eyes in fear and broke into a sob. He waited for another moment before finally taking the phone into his hand with all the strength he could muster, because he could be shot to death any minute. Kikwang felt his life flashed before him and took a deep breath. He tried to dial Dongwoon’s number and it was funny, because it was always easy for him to call his husband but right now he just couldn’t. He kept on pressing the wrong number before finally dialing the correct one.

Kikwang waited.

Noticing his hostage had obeyed what he was told to do, the Joker took a few steps back to give Kikwang some space but his gun was still pointed directly at him. He turned his head to the screen to observe, and it turned out that Kikwang was really calling Dongwoon because the politician took his phone out of his pocket. He noticed Dongwoon frowning at the screen for a moment before picking it up.

“...Woonie?” Kikwang whispered because he couldn’t bring himself to speak.

“Baby?”

The pretty male snorted into a sad chuckle and obediently nodded when the killer motioned him to set the call on speaker.

“H-hi...”

“Are you alright?”

Kikwang sniffed and nodded even though his husband couldn’t see it. “Yeah. How’s the meeting going?”

“I’m still not done yet. ...baby, where are you?”

“Me?” Kikwang took a deep breath. “I’m at the hotel.”

“Really?”

“Really. You don’t have to worry. I’m alright.”

Kikwang noticed the disapproving stare the Joker gave him. He held up his hand, as if to inform the other male that he understood. Kikwang understood, but he didn’t care.

Dongwoon was much more important than his life.

“Woonie... I’m sorry.”

His husband sighed at the other line. “I’m sorry too, baby. I’m sorry I’m not sensitive enough for you lately.”

“Tell him,” the Joker quietly said.

“It’s alright. It’s not your fault.”

“It is. I’m gonna get this meeting done as soon as possible and then I’ll stay with you until we get back.”

Kikwang closed his eyes in exhaustion. “It’s okay.”

“Tell him,” the Joker’s tone raised and it was laced with slight anger.

“Baby? Who’s that with you in the room?”

“No-no one,” Kikwang said and a tear fell to his cheek. “It’s just the tv...”

“Baby...? Tell me who’s that with you in the room.”

“It’s no one,” Kikwang finally burst out crying and sobbed almost helplessly.

“Tell him or you’ll die,” the Joker hissed impatiently and cocked his gun to show that he wasn’t playing around. The click sound made Kikwang terrified, but he was determined not to give into the Joker’s order.

“Woonie,” Kikwang cried. “I’m-I’m pregnant-“

“FUCK!”

The Joker screamed and slapped the phone away with his gun. Kikwang let out a shriek as he heard the sound of the phone crashed onto the floor, shattering to every direction. The male waited for a gunshot, a pain, death, anything, but nothing came. Kikwang finally braved himself to open his eyes-only to find the Joker kneeling breathlessly on the floor with one hand on his forehead. His other hand still carried the metal weapon, but it wasn’t directed at Kikwang anymore.

“Dammit... I... I can’t do it...”

“J-Joker-nim,” Kikwang stammered and the said male glanced at him. The male looked lost and Kikwang felt like pulling him into a hug and telling him everything was going to be alright. “You can kill me...”

The killer’s eyes were filled with confusion. “What...?”

“You can kill me,” Kikwang shook his head and felt the anger was starting to build in him. “You can kill me, you can do anything to me, but your employer can just fuck off. My Dongwoon’s gonna win everything, and even if you threaten me, I would never let him sacrificing his life for mine.” Kikwang’s hand slowly drifted down to his stomach. “Politic is his world...and no one, not even me, shall rip it away from him...”

Dead silence descended upon them the moment Kikwang finished talking. The Joker shifted his gaze back at at the screen and pursed his lips at the view of Dongwoon standing up, shouting something to the guards, looking panicked and running a hand through his hair in attempt to do something to save his spouse. He turned to Kikwang with a sad stare. Finally, there was a sense of feeling in his black orbs. It lasted for a second because it disappeared as soon as it came. “You’re gonna make a great mother.”

“J-Joker-nim...”

“Which is why I’m not gonna kill you. You have to live...and raise your kid.”

Kikwang breathed in relief and beamed at the killer with his teary eyes. He had never felt so grateful in his life before. Kikwang sniffled almost hysterically before wiping the tears away and all of a sudden, his expression turned serious. “Joker-nim.”

The male shot him a questioning look.

“Listen to me,” Kikwang said flatly and suddenly, he was different from the Kikwang before. It was like all of his emotions were drained from his face. “In precisely twenty seconds, you’re gonna run out of that window to save yourself and I want you to look for me. If they ask you what is your intention, please, please just tell them Midnight Sun.”

The Joker was stunned at the sudden request. “Midnight...sun?”

“Fifteen,” Kikwang firmly said. “Please. Please run away now.”

The Joker started heading to the window with deep confusion chiseled all over his face. He had no idea what was going on, but something in Kikwang’s tone told him that if he didn’t obey, a terrible thing would happen. Just as he climbed to the window, the purple haired male threw a last look over his shoulder. “Just...why?”

Kikwang only sent him a smile and gave him nothing as an answer. The Joker felt a bit intimidated because the smile was definitely different than before. He finally sensed something was coming and within seconds, he disappeared easily into the dark night. Kikwang leaned his back weakly against the headboard and sighed loudly.

“Because I want you to live.”

***

Junhong was always on time.

Kikwang always counted each second and when the time reached zero, the boy broke into the room. He let out a soft whimper because he knew he was safe with Junhong’s presence.

The Joker left without looking back. He quickly put on a cap and blended easily with the crowd, away from the cheap motel. It was the first time for him to fail his mission, but strangely he felt right this time. He felt like it was the right thing to do. All of this time, the people he was supposed to kill were worth it, they were the trash of the society, but this Kikwang...he looked so fragile and precious and he was glad he didn’t hurt him. The Joker tucked his hands casually into his pockets as he walked away from the sea of people, failing to see a few men turning their heads to his direction with a death glare. But none of them did anything.

The killer walked away freely.

Junhong scanned the room thoroughly and glanced down from the window. He took another moment to make sure before pocketing his gun.

“Zelo,” Kikwang breathed weakly. “Help.”

The boy nodded silently at him before scooting over to untie his master’s spouse.

Kikwang huffed in relief as his wrist was finally free. The thin rope left a few marks on his skin but it didn’t matter. He was safe and it was all that matter. “I-I want to go home...”

Junhong nodded as he helped the older male rising to his feet.

“L,” the boy spoke to his earpiece. “Clear the path.”

It didn’t take long for them to leave the motel.

Kikwang stayed silent the whole trip back to the hotel. Of course, no one would get cheerful after being pointed a gun to the forehead. Kikwang hugged himself as he shook his head, trying to erase the memories away. His hands were shaking badly. He was very lucky to escape the killing.

He was very lucky, because he tricked the Joker and it worked.

“Yes sir.”

Junhong suddenly spoke, breaking the silence in the car and Kikwang noticed him speaking to his phone.

“He’s safe.”

“Zelo, is that my husband?”

Junhong didn’t reply Kikwang. “Yes, he’s alright. Do you wish to speak to him, Sir?”

“I DON’T WANT TO TALK TO HIM! TELL HIM THAT I HATE MARRYING HIM! I HATE MARRYING SON DONGWOON!”

Junhong quickly detached the phone from his ear and put it on loudspeaker. Myungsoo didn’t seem to be affected by the sudden screaming, afterall it wasn’t the first time.

“Baby, I’m very sorry-“

“I KNOW I SAID I WOULD STAY UNTIL DEATH DO US PART BUT THE PRIEST DIDN’T ASK ME IF I WAS WILLING TO BE KIDNAPPED JUST BECAUSE MY HUSBAND IS A DAMN FINE POLITICIAN-“

“Baby-“

“AND ONCE IS ENOUGH, I MEAN COME ON, THERE’S ALWAYS THE FIRST TIME TO EVERYTHING, I THOUGHT IT WAS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE BUT-BUT SIX? OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS MY SEVENTH KIDNAP, WOONIE!! AND I’M GLAD THE JOKER BOUGHT THE WHOLE STORY ABOUT ME BEING PREGNANT!”

“I know-“

“I ACTED I WAS DYING WHEN ZELO KIDNAPPED ME AND HAD A MENTAL PROBLEM WHEN L KIDNAPPED ME AND HONESTLY I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO USE THE DAMN PREGNANCY THING-OH MY GOD WOONIE, I RUN OUT OF SCRIPTS! I DON’T WANT ANOTHER KIDNAPPING!”

“Baby please, I’ll do anything to make it up to you. I promise you, we’ll go somewhere peaceful after-“

“I DON’T WANT A HOLIDAY! I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU AND YOU WON’T GET ANY THIS MONTH!”

“Wh-what? I won’t get any this month?”

“YES YOU HEARD ME AND ZELO HANG UP THE DAMN PHONE!”

“Goodbye, Sir,” Zelo said and disconnected the call.

Myungsoo finally snickered when the call ended.

“Mr. Son is so whipped.”

***

It was late when Dongwoon got back to the hotel.

The male carefully slipped into the room and closed the door behind him as quiet as possible. He loosened his tie with a sigh and threw it offhandedly to the couch. The tall male shot his watch a glance before walking closer to the bed to get a good look at his husband.

Kikwang was already asleep but even in his sleep, he seemed uncomfortable. His eyes were closed with a slight frown formed upon his forehead. Dongwoon licked his dry lips and felt guilt washed over his entire body because Kikwang looked terribly exhausted. The politician sat on the edge of the bed, his eyes softened as he lifted a hand to caress his spouse’s cheek and sighed inwardly.

How he wished the male would never go through something like this (again).

But what could he do to make it happen?

Kikwang stirred slightly from the touch. “Woonie,” he feebly moaned.

“I’m here,” Dongwoon replied softly, his hand was still caressing the pretty male’s cheek. “Just go back to sleep.”

“Hmm,” Kikwang hummed sleepily as he leaned into Dongwoon’s gentle touch. “Have you eaten?”

Dongwoon pressed his lips into a thin line. Even after the possibilities of him losing his own life, Kikwang was still affectionate toward Dongwoon. That was one of many things he loved about Kikwang. Sometimes he felt like he didn’t deserve the male at all. “You don’t have to worry.”

“Woonie?”

“Yes, baby?”

“I hate my life.”

Dongwoon broke into a sad smile. “I know. I’m sorry.” He leaned down to pressed his lips on Kikwang’s forehead. The smell of the latter’s skin lingered faintly. “I hope this will be the last.”

“I really hope so,” Kikwang sighed. “I wouldn’t know what to do anymore if it happens. Might as well just kill myself.”

“Don’t say such things. I’m not gonna let anyone harm you.”

Kikwang’s lips slowly curved into a smile and he gazed up at Dongwoon. Their eyes met and Dongwoon felt himself shaking at the emotions that were displayed within Kikwang’s orbs. They weren’t hatred at all. They were deep with love and passion. Oh God, what good deeds had he done so he deserved someone like this?

“You know, Woonie,” Kikwang pouted cutely and traced his fingers on Dongwoon’s slender arm. “Sometimes I think Zelo just let the kidnappers get me because he’s excited about finding me. I mean, he could easily track me down and to think that I disappear from his eyesight! Really...that boy... What if I die before he comes?”

“That’s not going to happen,” Dongwoon said sternly. “You know that eventually, the kidnappers would want you to call me and then you would call to my other number. The emergency number that only both of us know. And the moment you call, I would know something is wrong and the satellite will track your whereabout within few seconds.”

“I know, but there’s always a chance that I can’t call you...”

Dongwoon exhaled through his nose and ran a hand through Kikwang’s hair. “Maybe I should switch L to be your main bodyguard. He’s a few years older than Zelo. He’s more responsible in this kind of thing anyway...”

“Hm...” Kikwang blinked his eyes in thought. “I think... I think I want Joker to be my main bodyguard.”

“Joker?” Dongwoon frowned. “Don’t tell me...another kidnapper turned to guard?”

“Yeah,” Kikwang grinned as he tugged Dongwoon’s collar down before meeting their lips. “I’m sure he’ll come.”

"Baby?"

“Baby...?”

Dongwoon managed to breathe between their passionate kisses.

“Hm?”

“...I thought you said I wouldn’t get any...?”

“Oh right. Get off of me, then.”

“No, I’m just joking-“

“NOW.”

“...shit.”

End.

Junhyung dressed neatly like he was going for an interview.

Ilhoon looked confused this morning when he told him he would leave early. His father had never left in the morning. He usually would play with him the whole day and work at night when he was already asleep. But his father looked somewhat handsome with the shirt so Ilhoon didn’t mind. He bade him goodbye with a wide grin and Junhyung shot him a smile back.

Kikwang was right.

His son’s smile meant more than anything in the whole world.

Stupid him for wanting to wipe it away just because of a huge sum of money.

Junhyung was never nervous, but this time it was as if a hurricane was swirling in his stomach. He felt terrible and yet he felt weird. Junhyung thought he was okay about quitting from killing people. He never knew since when ‘professional killer’ had become his job. All he knew that all of the training he got when he was in the military had paid off. Besides, Ilhoon needed to sign up for a playgroup soon, and it would be nice if his father had a decent job.

So he resigned from being a cold blooded killer.

And protecting Son Kikwang somehow became his ultimate wish.

Junhyung didn’t know if Kikwang was going to hire him. The male probably would have him killed or send him to jail instead. But something in him said that the pretty male wouldn’t do such thing. Junhyung sighed nervously as he drove the car and kept on biting his inner cheek the whole trip. What if he was tricked? Who would take care of Ilhoon then?

But he would never know if he never tried.

So when Junhyung finally arrived at the Son’s mansion and the guards sent him a piercing glare, he encouraged himself. He was the Joker and he had no fear. The guards eyed him from head to toe thoroughly before asking. It was as if they had expected him to come because it was exactly like Kikwang had told him.

“What’s your intention?”

One of them asked.

Junhyung took a deep breath before answering.

“Midnight Sun.”
