It was Junhyung’s birthday, and Kikwang was waiting for his boyfriend to arrive so that they’d go to the celebration party together. It’s not a big party, just a small one for Hyunseung’s beloved Junhyung in their apartment. Kikwang sighed and blew his breath to his hands, it was winter in December, couldn’t wait to get on the train and stop freezing.
When Jinwoon arrived, Kikwang decided he wouldn’t protest despite his boyfriend’s lateness and leave right away, but a firm grip on his wrist made him turn to face him and surprised with the serious expression.
Kikwang was dumbfounded when Jinwoon broke him up, saying that he’s in love with another boy. That he found their relationship was ultimately boring and couldn’t be forced ahead even if he wanted to. Jinwoon bowed, patted him on the shoulder and walked away. Kikwang was finally snapped into reality again when his phone vibrated and Hyunseung was asking him where the hell he was, and why he hadn’t arrived yet.
When Kikwang finally arrived, all by himself, it made Hyunseung’s brows raised and Yoseob frowned askingly, he just couldn’t bring himself to answer.
“Where’s Jinwoon?”, asked Yoseob, peeking outside, probably thinking Jinwoon was still behind.
Kikwang looked at Hyunseung blankly and finally able to find his voice.
“I just got dumped...”

Surprisingly, Kikwang managed himself to be calm and flashed everyone his killer smile when he got into the room. Junhyung and Doojoon opened their mouths to ask the same question Yoseob had asked, but quickly fell silent when Hyunseung made a big X with his hands behind him. They shrug it off, singing happy birthday to Junhyung, cutting the cake, then the birthday boy kissed his boyfriend over and over, thankful for his third birthday with Hyunseung and they’re still together. Yoseob glanced worriedly at Kikwang, but the latter didn’t seem to mind. He was smiling.
It was when Doojoon and Yoseob were bidding them goodbye that Kikwang realized he should go as well.
He congratulated Junhyung once again before heading to the door. Hyunseung followed him and touched his arm. Again, Kikwang was smiling.
“You’re gonna be okay. It’s his loss.”
Kikwang blinked and nodded. “I’m okay, Hyung.”
“Promise me you’ll be,” Hyunseung said firmly. “Tell me if you need anything, or just anyone to talk to.”
“I will, Hyung, I will,” Kikwang said softly and with that, he left.

After a few hours on the road home that seemed like an eternity, Kikwang finally arrived at his apartment. Not bothering to take a shower, he just took off his shoes and spread himself on the couch. He sighed. His mind drifted back to the relationship he had with Jinwoon.
It had been just several months, two and a half to be exact. The moment Jinwoon confessed to him, he had everyone warned him that Jinwoon was just gonna play with him and break his heart in the end. It wasn’t exactly a pretty relationship, though. They fought a lot (Jinwoon usually started it), he sometimes would hit him too. For such short time, Kikwang found Jinwoon cheated on him for three times, but he was always in defeat when Jinwoon crawled on his feet and begged forgiveness.
Lee Kikwang was such a weak, weak person.
He felt it himself. He was not the type to say no, and although everyone agree that he has the best smile ever, he couldn’t bring himself to admit that he was unhappy. That he was only accepted Jinwoon because he thought he could love the younger boy, and at least had someone to rely on. He envied Yoseob with Doojoon, and mostly to Junhyung with Hyunseung. He could see Doojoon and Junhyung took care of their boyfriends with such attention, he wished he had one like that. But Jinwoon was, unfortunately, not like them.
Kikwang couldn’t say no to whatever it is that Jinwoon begged him, except that night when Jinwoon was a bit harsh toward him, pushing him on the bed, trying to unbutton his shirt with force, it made Kikwang yelped and begged him to stop. He didn’t want to have sex just yet because deep down inside, he didn’t want to exchange bodily fluid with someone he’s not in love with. Jinwoon was so angry and he got slapped several times, but Kikwang resisted and he cried, making Jinwoon left in anger.
Perhaps that’s the source of the problem. Because today, he broke him up.
Should he give in the first time and make love?
No, even if he did, it wasn’t make love...it’s just sex.
Kikwang shut his eyes, thinking why the tears hadn’t flow yet. He couldn’t cry, even if he wanted to, even if he feel wasted, was taken advantage, was badly hurt, both feelings and pride... He tried to stop thinking and fell into a deep slumber.

Dongwoon fished his hands in his pocket, eyes examining the people around him. He was back in Korea for a winter break from college, only to find his best friend was being an asshole to a guy. Dongwoon heard the stories from Jinwoon everyday, how he did what he think was right, but to Dongwoon, it was definitely hurting his boyfriend. His anger risen when Jinwoon told him he finally called the whole thing off, without even feeling sorry.
Regretful being a best friend to Jinwoon, Dongwoon felt like he needed to find this ex boyfriend of his, to tell him he’s sorry. He knew the person he’s about to apologize for wouldn’t feel happy, Jinwoon would certainly kill him for this, but Dongwoon would just tell him he’s sorry for his friend for being a total jerk, and he should move on and find a better, better person than him.
Dongwoon looked down, at the scribbling note in his hand.
Lee Kikwang. 555xxxxxxx.
Thank God Jinwoon was drunk last night and Dongwoon took the opportunity to steal his phone. He even gritted his teeth to see the name was usual “That Guy” instead of “My Boyfriend” “My Love” or whatever it is that couples usually use. Jinwoon also muttered something like “He didn’t even looked sad when I broke him up” or “He was always silent all the time” in his sleep. Dongwoon also wanted to scold that ex boyfriend of his for being such a person. He was hurt, he should be angry for Jinwoon’s attitude.
So instead of going around this campus, asking which one Lee Kikwang is, Dongwoon decided to give him a call and would ask if they could meet. He was standing in front of a soccer field, few people were gathering to see the practice. He dialed the number and raised the phone to his ear, when it rang near him, making his head snapped to the direction.
A black haired guy looked down to his phone, eyes scanning the screen. Beside him was a brown haired guy with chubby cheeks, peeking over his shoulder to see what his friend was staring. Dongwoon waited for a while, wanting to know if it’s the person he’s actually calling, and quickly pressed the end button when the black haired guy accepted and said, “Hello?”
It was definitely him.
Dongwoon was stunned. The black haired guy looked confused but then he put away his phone. He was cute. No, that was an understatement. He was stunningly beautiful. He wasn’t too tall, nor too short. He was exactly Dongwoon’s type. After all this time hearing Jinwoon’s stories about how he never fight back or feeling angry, Dongwoon sure he was. The guy looked kind hearted and mild. The kinda guy who exactly, once again, was Dongwoon’s type.
Jinwoon was really an asshole for hurting this beautiful person.
He realized he should wait, but since he came to the campus to see this guy, he thought why not now. He must have been staring for the past minutes because the brown haired nudged him in the rib and motioned to Dongwoon.
“He’s been staring at you, Kiki.”
Dongwoon was finally sure it was really Kikwang.
Kikwang turned his head and their eyes locked. Dongwoon’s knees felt weak, but he managed. Oh, how he would give anything to protect this guy from harm.
So Dongwoon stepped closer and smiled.
“I’m Son Dongwoon. Lee Kikwang, right?”
***
Since the first day they met, Dongwoon had been following Kikwang whenever and wherever. Fortunately, Dongwoon knew Doojoon, who turned out to be the brown haired guy’s boyfriend, so Doojoon assured Kikwang that he’s a good guy. Kikwang couldn’t help but blushed at that statement.
Dongwoon was giving Jinwoon the silent treatment, and nodding blankly everytime Jinwoon mentioned Kibum, or rather to be called Key, their high school friend.
Jinwoon turned out to be head over heels for Key, but Key had already dated his senior, a handsome guy named Kim Jonghyun. So Jinwoon felt hurt, betrayed, whatever it is he’s feeling and Dongwoon sighed, if he only realized karma does exist. He also felt ignored by Dongwoon and had been asking where he went, why he missed their nights with Mir, and so on, and so on, but Dongwoon swore he wouldn’t tell Jinwoon by himself and would protect Kikwang even if it means sacrificing his life. Yes, Dongwoon had fallen in love with Kikwang so deep. He didn’t know which part of Kikwang made Jinwoon was so cruel to him, but perhaps the fault was at Jinwoon.
His phone buzzed and ignoring Jinwoon’s ranting, Dongwoon read the message and found himself smiling. A goodnight wish from Kikwang always made him feel better and loved. Although their relationship isn’t official yet, the people around them knew that Dongwoon was serious about dating Kikwang, and Hyunseung was the most supportive about it.
Once again, yes, he was deeply in love.
***
Kikwang smiled at the reply and put away his phone when he caught Hyunseung’s gaze. “What?”
“You’ve changed,” Hyunseung said, amused. “I’ve never seen you like this before. I guess Dongwoon is really something.”
Kikwang blushed at the name and smiled shyly. “He’s really nice.”
“A total gentleman, unlike that jerk,” Hyunseung looked annoyed. “Let’s not talk about him anymore. So when are you going to date Dongwoon?”
“W-what? W-we haven’t talked about it, I mean, he hadn’t asked me out...”
“Yet,” Hyunseung smirked. “It’s good that he’s not rushing things out. I like him, Kwangie.”
Me too, Hyung. Me too...
They talked some more before Hyunseung stood up and went to the kitchen. They were alone at the apartment, Junhyung was still working part time and DooSeob were out watching movies, so they decided to have dinner together. Kikwang’s phone vibrated some more and eyes widened, looking at the screen. It was someone he clearly wanted to forget. He felt if he tell Hyunseung about it, the pretty boy would snap so instead he ignored the texts and pretend like nothing happened.
However, Jinwoon was clearly a stubborn person. He still texted Kikwang the next day, and the next day, it made him had to ignore the buzzing when he was with Dongwoon. Kikwang was tempted to tell Dongwoon about his asshole ex boyfriend, but he held back, thinking that it got nothing to do with Dongwoon anyway. It’s not like they’re dating...yet.
It was Christmas’ Eve when Dongwoon realized Kikwang had been secretly staring at his phone too long but quickly hid it behind his smile. It was already New Year’s Eve when Dongwoon accidentally saw Jinwoon’s inbox from Kikwang, saying that he’s sorry. Dongwoon frowned. He then took the liberty of exploring the phone himself and brows furrowed some more reading the sent ones, asking Kikwang for forgiveness and beg him to come back. Knowing the stubbornness of Jinwoon, he realized this must have going on for days, but why didn’t Kikwang tell him?
Well, Dongwoon never asked Kikwang about his ex boyfriend though, since he knew it already and didn’t want Kikwang to be sad again if he’s reminded of the memories, but Hyunseung once told him that Kikwang was dumped and the guy was total jerk. Typical of Jinwoon. Thus Kikwang had the right of not telling him... Dongwoon bit his lip rereading Kikwang’s message, sorry for rejecting him or sorry for not replying for a long time?
Jealousy dwelled up within Dongwoon, he knew he was being ridiculous, but then another message coming up.
I will meet you tomorrow.
Dongwoon felt himself angry and quickly browsed the text Jinwoon had sent, asking if they could meet tomorrow for lunch. His teeth gritted and when Jinwoon came back from the bathroom, he threw the phone at him and stormed out.

Kikwang was standing in front of a restaurant, waiting for a certain someone to show up. Just like last time, he waited. He was so eager to finish it all up that he only wore thick jackets and gloves. He forgot to bring a scarf, and his neck is freezing. Kikwang kept covering them with his hands, sighing at the thought why Jinwoon likes to make him wait.
Dongwoon never made him wait. It was Dongwoon who was always showing up first. It was funny how two people could be really different. Unknowingly to him, Dongwoon was standing at the corner, watching Kikwang intensely. If Jinwoon was acting a bit out of hand he would come and protect Kikwang. Just when Jinwoon appeared and even though he seemed no harm, Dongwoon’s feet bringing him closer to the man he loved.
Kikwang bowed deeply, making Jinwoon surprised.
“Look, I know I’ve been a jerk before, but please give me another chance...”, Jinwoon begged, same old same old.
Kikwang shook his head. “I’m sorry. I’m in love with someone else...”
Dongwoon froze in his track.
Jinwoon looked shocked. He was addressing to his best friend actually who showed up behind Kikwang, not to Kikwang’s sentence. “Do-Dongwoon?”
“Yes... I’m in love with Dongwoon, your best friend.”
Jinwoon’s eyes widened. He couldn’t believe what he just heard.
“You knew?”
Kikwang gasped softly at Dongwoon’s voice and looked back. He blushed and tried to step back, but Dongwoon grabbed his arm.
“Since when?”, Dongwoon was demanding.
Kikwang blushed shyly and looked down. “ I knew it from the start... Jinwoon mentioned you several times when we were still dating.”
Dongwoon was loss at words.
“Wait a minute. So you were seeing him behind my back?”, Jinwoon asked, his tone raised.
Dongwoon snorted. “That’s not exactly right, Jinwoon. He wasn’t even your boyfriend anymore when I saw him.”
“But you knew how I feel about him!”
The taller one raised his brows. “What? That you mistreated him and you like it? That you feel that he’s not worth it because he wouldn’t have sex with you? No. I will not let Kwangie get back with someone like you. You’re not the right one for him, Jinwoon.”
Jinwoon glared at Dongwoon for a while and then he spit. “Then you’re not my friend anymore, Son Dongwoon. I despise you! I thought you’re my best friend!”
With that said, Jinwoon walked away angrily and Kikwang touched Dongwoon’s arm.
“Wait! It isn’t right! He’s your best friend... You should go after him!”
“No, it’s for the best,” Dongwoon shook his head in certain and stared at Kikwang. He realized the shorter one was freezing with his hands on his neck. Dongwoon put his scarf on Kikwang’s neck and patted him caringly. “Now, let’s get you home.”
***
Kikwang was super nervous when they got into his apartment. He practically confessed his feelings and Dongwoon still hadn’t commented about it. After he made them hot chocolate, he came back to the living room with two mugs on his hands. Dongwoon already seated himself, hands folded on his chest. He then sat facing Dongwoon, before sipping his chocolate to hide his nervousness.
“I’m sorry,” was the first thing came out from Dongwoon’s mouth.
He shook his head. “Don’t be...”
“Were you mad?”
Kikwang tilted his head to a side. “Maybe, just a bit...I thought you were gonna play with me again, the same way Jinwoon did. I thought you guys made a bet or something...”
“I would never do that.”
The older one smiled. “I know...”
Silence leapt again between them. Kikwang stared at his mug, Dongwoon didn’t even touch his yet.
“I gotta be honest, then,” Dongwoon leaned forward, his fingers entwining. “I was just gonna tell you I’m sorry by Jinwoon’s name. He told me about you everyday. How he cheated on you. How he treated you right in his own way, but I didn’t feel the same. And I was so angry when you refused to had sex with him, and he hit you. And then you guys broke up. I just...I feel like I was angry at you too. Why you never fought back. Why you never protested, and why you always gave in whenever he asked you to forgive him.”
“I just...wanted to meet you. But when I did... I just couldn’t take my eyes off of you.”
“I’m starting to have this feelings...and I made a promise to myself, that I won’t hurt you like Jinwoon did.”
Dongwoon paused after his long talk and walked to Kikwang. He kneeled before him and grabbing their hands together.
“Would you be my boyfriend, Lee Kikwang?”
“Yes,” Kikwang breathed in seconds and Dongwoon chuckled.
“Good, because I can’t stand no, since you already told Jinwoon you love me. And, I don’t ever want to see you with him again...just thinking about it makes me jealous...”
Dongwoon put his hand on Kikwang’s neck and pulled him closer. Their lips softly touched, sending Kikwang’s stomach to flutter.
For the first time, Kikwang felt truly happy. For the first time, Kikwang let someone kissed him and not jerking off from the touch. For the first time, Kikwang let himself be hugged closely and felt secure.
He didn’t resist Dongwoon’s touch on him, because somewhere deep down inside, he knew, that Dongwoon was the right one for him.
End.
