So just by way of keeping my status as a dork of the first order in good standing, let me share with you what I've spent my Sunday morning doing. I watched Gladiator last night for probably the 6th or 7th time. I know it well enough that I can recite much of the English dialog right along with the actors. But for whatever reason, it suddenly hit me

The very first words I uttered to my friend on walking out of the theatre after seeing the movie for the first time were, "That would have been a lot better if it had been in Latin."

But someone else has alreadytranslated the script into Latin. The wrong Latin, of course, since 2nd century soldiers hardly spoke the way classical scholars wrote hundreds of years previously. But one line of Gothic took me an hour and a half, I think I'll leave the vulgar proto-Italic for another day. Hee.
