I don't use tumblr that often, but I do have strong opinions re: spoilers. I myself love being spoilered, even if I'm caught unawares by it, so I guess I'm not very sympathetic to the pleas of those who hate to be spoiled. But I do find it quite silly that people are still using spoiler alert cuts for posts about The End of Time. If the episode aired more than a week ago, it's fair game.

I'm not very sympathetic either, because I honestly believe fans go overboard on what spoiler actually is. I don't consider plot summaries as spoilers, and those are just overviews of what episodes are about! I mean, yes, sometimes there's a blurry line but that typically happens with (mid-)season or series finales, so I don't understand the phobia over those! You also have folks who believe promotional stills are spoilers, and those all must be cut since their oh-so sensitive eyes might see something out-of-context or whatever that may be.

IDK. Maybe I'm a complete jackass. I don't believe one small quote/scene/moment will ruin an entire episode for someone, y'know? If they don't like what I post, they can unfollow me. If they are complaining about "community" tumblrs like tardisadventures or teamelevenftw or a random fuckyeah!, they can take it up with the owners.

Ugh, my thoughts exactly. People who are super-sensitive to spoilers need to calm down. My dad is one of them, sadly; he can't even bear to watch the trailers when we go out to see a movie so he has to cover his eyes. lollll.

Now that's insane. Whenever I get spoiled IRL, I go blank for a couple minutes then I move on. It's not that big of a deal.

You aren't the first person who expressed this opinion to me.

I haven't voted because basically I think: if someone doesn't like what you're posting or when you're posting it, spoilers or not, they can simply unfollow.

I saw the tidbits you posted from the DW episode and it actually reminded me that it had aired/drove me to go watch it. So thanks, actually!

LOL, MTE. I did write my passive-aggressive post on Tumblr earlier today, but it pretty much summed up to "You may complain-I get why-but I'll do what I want to do since it's my Tumblr." I'm not a sympathetic person on Tumblr, haha.

I'm glad I could help someone!

I guess there's also a line between most recent episode and spoiler pictures for FUTURE episode. I know not to go on Tumblr until I've seen Doctor Who (which I haven't), but it irks me to no end when people post spoiler pictures of future episodes. You can't avoid that though :\

See. That's also problematic because what if the person who post photos of future episodes, but it was already known information? Would this post I created earlier be considered not kosher even though it was featured in two/three Doctor Who trailers before the Who premiere? By now, everyone in fandom should know the Daleks (and River Song and Cybermen and Weeping Angels etc) are returning. #overthinking

Oh those are fine, because it's so general. There's always Daleks and Cybermen in every freaking season. Trailers and previews/promos are considered okay because it's on TV and available for general consumption.

But I remember once in TBBT where Sheldon and Leonard's Mom kissed. That's like so out of the blue that I had to say something :x That was under lj cut spoiler photos that I general avoid.

IA. I also believe scenes featured in trailers should be okay, because all the other scenes I posted on Doctor Who were in the trailers as well, just minus a quotation. That didn't say much about the episode either way. It would need context to make sense IMO.

Yeah when I'm talking about spoilers in future episodes as well. I try to mention those as well in my eljay cut or something.

Well I think I've talked to you about this before, but IDC about spoilers for aired episodes on tumblr. tumblr by its nature is supposed to be a quick-fix kind of visual thing. Like, the idea of cutting a tumblr post for a spoilery picture just seems odd to me. When I haven't seen an episode of something I don't want to see images from yet... I just don't go on tumblr. But on livejournal, I lock. spoilers. down. It's contradictory I guess but I feel the sites are so different that the same rules don't necessarily apply. For instance, 18 posts in one day on tumblr is accepted, almost expected. On livejournal it's not.

Stuff that hasn't aired yet though I would say is suspect on tumblr. I've been spoiled for things that haven't aired yet on tumblr and I was like FUCK! but I wasn't super-pissed I guess.

AND OUR CONVERSATION WAS BRILLIANT, TYVM. Joking aside, you know I agree with you. I've never been sensitive to spoilers. I actively hunt them down. I'm known for reading wikipedia pages for seasons of television programs for I can be prepared for whatever I watching, but I do follow etiquette rules on Livejournal. It's only the proper to do so. When it comes down to Tumblr ... yeah, it's a quick visual fix to me. That's why I don't understand how people can use it for their primary fandom activities. It has limited interaction between users. All you can do is either reblog and crowd your dashboard with bullshit no one wants to see or use the message system for PM-like conversations.
