Secondly, yeah - I really feel sorry for all involved in this. The story of Oscar is, in itself, just tear-jerkingly sad. I mean, talk about doomed love. "Oscar, I love you!" "Andre, I love you too!" French Revolution comes and there's no more Andre or Oscar. ;_; But the side-characters, especially in this version... Rosalie who has to live on with her beloved Oscar killed. Bernard who has to live with his wife loving someone else. Jeez, no one have happy endings in this. >_< I really look forward to watching this with you. I think you'll enjoy the insane drama of it.
Hopefully as much as you enjoyed the story - or more. ♥

The poor girl. She never gets a break, does she? This fic really reminded me of her dance scene; always enduring and always accepting the smallest possible rewards in turn.
Also, ouch. Painful, painful heterosexual intercourse, not only because of the actual, physical pain, but because of the way it just ruins her perception of romantic love. Like, the way she lives her life, she'll always be a servant first, woman second. Doormat, I tell you. Historically, obviously, not so much a doormat as just... properly raised. But yes.
She's sad, this fic is beautiful and I'm done rambling. ;)

I'm so glad you liked it, dear. Rosalie is just the kind of character who... is so easily over-done. The manga itself even does it a couple of places, so I'm glad to hear that you didn't think I went down the same road.
I was thinking about the dance scene almost constantly when I wrote this - the feeling of so many dreams and hopes, ruined. It was just really the feeling of that scene, right?
Thanks for commenting. You know it means the world to me.

And your wording of /despite/ and /because/ was spot on. It was exactly how I saw the idea develop in Rosalie's own head.
