Fic! "Thinking Bright" R, 5140 words, Snape

Jan 02, 2006 01:56

Title: Thinking Bright
Author: Flora
Words: ~5140
Rating: R
A/N: regan_v issued a challenge the other day, to write fluffy Snape. This started out as comment fic for that, but then it took on a life of its own. It's not, despite the opening, fluffy. Though Snape does possess a pink wand. Sigh.

Waaaaaaahhhh...

Not sure yet whether that's a sign of gap-jawed "whoa, that was 1) really unexpected and 2) really good" at this or sad "poor Severus/Charlie and who knows when they're going to be able to see each other again and poor things". Charlie especially because he's aware the entire time, Severus because ouch, whoa. ;-;

Very nice, and very...well, for some reason the first adjective that comes to mind is "very former Soviet scifi-y", but I blame my Russian Cinema class and having read Stanislaw Lem last year for that.

Of course, now we're all wriggling in our chairs wondering whether or not things really will work out...not that that's a request for a sequel; while I don't doubt you could write a good one (with emphasis: don't doubt you could write a good one ^^), it stands alone and even though we'd like to see more, it doesn't at all feel incomplete--the tone of the piece works perfectly with the sense of ambiguous resolution (one way or another) at the end. Another thing to add to the list of reasons why this piece is ( ... )

Heh. Yeah, I think it's complete as-is.

Thanks.

...I am going to have to talk to you about this oh yes oh yes ohhhh yes. (In short, I liked it a LOT, and it made me want to work on my 1984-AU fic with Remus/Sirius. But it also made me bwee for the "Brat." "News? No." parts.)

Oh, wow. Dark and fascinating and just so twisted. Much love. I like the little details, like how Umbridge had to change her name.

Thanks. Yes, no depressing names in a World Of Cheer! :)

This is clever and creepy and entirely believable. Umbridge as Minister of Cheer makes absolute sinister sense, and I like the way you resisted writing an unequivocally happy ending. I'm also always happy to see Charlie.

Thanks. And yeah, no happy there at the end. :(

Okay, that sure as hell wasn't fluff, you're right there. And it's exceptionally well written. But gods, so horribly dark and creepy and deeply disturbing.

...Sorry!

But I SAID it wasn't fluff, in the long run! There are apparently laws of physics at work--I tried to write fluffy Snape and the universe went ...ummmmno. and sent it elsewhere.
