This is it. Today is the day.

Somewhere out in that jungle are dinosaurs and I? Am about to go see them. Which means that my life is approximately five hundred percent cooler than it was yesterday and that much likelier to turn into a bad sci fi movie. Either way, it's incontrovertibly awesome.First, though, Olive has to finish her preparations in ( Read more... )

"Hey, what's all this?" Eduardo asks, walking into the kitchen and instinctively all but gravitating towards where Olive stands, a backpack and several other things in front of her. From the looks of it, she seems to be planning something, going somewhere, but he can't begin to think of what or where it might be when everything is so close. Eyebrows raised, he leans against the table with one hand, head tilting to the side as he looks at her, curious. "You taking a trip or something?"

There's reassurance in the way she smiles, that look alone enough for Eduardo to think that this might just be worth it. (Briefly, he wonders if Mark would have looked like that if he'd agreed to go to Palo Alto after all. It doesn't take more than a second for him to come to the decision that no, he wouldn't have, not even close.) With a lot still up in the air, this is still oddly familiar - unlikely as it seems, Jessica might not want him there, and then he'd be back to square one - but it at least feels more right this time, not a decision he'll regret, even if he doesn't think she should be going in the first place. "We'll ask her," he says, reluctantly returning her smile, though not nearly to the same extent. "I don't want to interfere."

"You're not interfering," Olive says, almost laughing. "Really, Eduardo, I wouldn't ask if I didn't think it was fine and it's fine, it'll be great." Granted, she didn't think it through before she asked, but she's still relatively sure Jessica won't protest. It's something they'll deal with when they get to it, that's all, and she has to hope that, if she sees Jess hesitate, her puppy eyes will prove effective, since she's already set her mind to having him come along. "Is there anything you need to grab first? I - you came in here for a reason, so I, I don't wanna rush you or anything."

"No, I was just gonna grab a drink or something," Eduardo replies, shaking his head. It's unimportant, all but forgotten now, between the dinosaurs and the memories that the whole situation has brought up. He isn't yet convinced that she's right about Jessica being okay with it, and isn't entirely sure what he'll do in the event that this plays out too much like before, but either way, he'd rather find out and get going than stand around the kitchen unnecessarily. She seems to have everything they'd need; he isn't concerned about that so much as he still is about her. "I'm, I'm ready whenever you guys are."

"Okay, then," Olive says, "perfect. Uh, I said I'd meet her in the rec room, so we can just... head out there now." She bites her lip, tugging briefly on his arm for him to follow her as she walks away. He'll follow, she's sure, no need to worry about that. It's what happens when they're out there she's not sure of. If anything goes wrong now, it'll be twice as bad for her having promised she'd be fine without him there, without even having told him, and it almost makes her want to apologize for not having said something sooner. He's not her brother, though, not her family, not anyone else she's required to report to, and she has to remind herself she doesn't really owe him that. All she has to do now is go on having the fun she already planned.
