I'm dusting off the old "Potter Fanfic files," checking out floofics. And I realized I have NO idea what all I've written! I mean, there are the fics archived at my fic comm, but I wasn't very good about keeping that up to date since my daughter was born. I'm pretty sure there are fics sprinkled here and there I have forgotten ( Read more... )

Hmm, what I want out of fandom.... That's a good question.

Where else are things happening? I know H&V... anywhere else? It probably wouldn't be feasible for me to have lots of different types of accounts all over. I'm happy just to be on here right now!

geewhiz said it better (as she often does). Lj isn't completely dead, but it is certainly not as active as it once was, especially not with individual users. When it comes to writing and reading, there are still a fair amount of fests/challenges that are to be found here (even if the stories aren't posted on LJ, there are links and updates and such here) but I think most of what individual writers post when they write a story that isn't for a challenge is posted elsewhere. Where, I don't know (I'd guess H&V is a good bet though, since it's pretty much the only D/Hr archive we have).

It'd be good to have you back. And man. I may not be very prolific, but I've been so out of touch with updating my LJ community for stories, it's shameful. I'm all right with posting the actual stories and whatnot, but when it comes to keeping my Master List updated, yeah, I think it was in 2009 or something I last even looked at the page, much less added anything to it.

It would be good to be back. I will.definitely miss the way LJ was, but I understand things change. People move on. I mean, I moved on. There seems to be decent fic still being posted, that is good.

It is a shame, but at the same time, it's understandable. A few people have moved on to other forums, a few to other ships with an active canon (not necessarily that their ship is canon, but that they have new material to work with) and a few have taken a "break" because they are at an age when they are getting married and having children. It's natural, and expected - at least to some extent. I'm just glad that fic communities are still going fairly strong on LJ. I think that might be a byproduct of us having had issues with archives/websites as a group in the past (and never really having had many personal websites; it's been a handful of archives over the years that's been just D/Hr, and here on LJ). Not necessarily only CV, but that breakdown certainly didn't help matters!

I AM HERE!! But mostly as a lurking lurker that lurks. And posts fic.

Stuff has changed a bit. Some people have dropped out of fandom, others have joined. There is Twitter and Tumblr and the H&V shoutbox going on.

I think that if you're looking for things to be the SAME as two and a half year ago, you will be disappointed. But new and different doesn't have to mean bad! And there are still people loving on the ship all over. :)

I know it isn't the same. And as long as people are still loving this ship, that's all I can ask for! Glad you are still around!

I use Tumblr to post pics, story links and whatever else, but like you said... There's nothing like (or can replace) the conversations we would have here about stories, plots, themes, awards, everything. I wrote a whitepaper about the LJ community and how ridiculously AWESOME it was for HP and fandom in general, and now... It's been taken over by tweets by random people semi-roleplaying as the characters.

A few writers use Twitter to blast their stories, but it's just not... right. Tweets and praise on random forums in the abyss have nothing on the discussions/debates we had here.

I remember posting a rant about one of Soft's stories. It had nearly a 100 comments that night from everyone here. Now, I depend on the people here for personal things instead of fandom-related topics... I've got to go back to basics!
