Am now finished with jury service, having pointlessly turned up at the court five times.

Summer studentship application was unsuccessful.

Trying to revise, but have only got through 1.5 of the 28 units.

Glad to hear thats over with. Bet you're relieved too. Cant they ring you if you wont be needed? Save a wasted journey....

What does it mean that the summer student thing is unsuccessful?

Revision, just take time on it. Dont force yourself to do it.

Summer studentship = a grant to pay her living expenses here (she's from Spain). They (Royal Society) award 10 across the UK, we didn't make it, possibly if someone else drops out....
I assume this means she can't work with me, unless her family is rich and/or the department finds some money for her.

Yeah I am glad to escape jury service. Even though it has allowed me off work and hence more revision time.

Oh, I see. There must be some backup plan in case the funding thing didnt work out? I cant imagine a uni not having contingency.....

Jury service sounds horrible. Hope I'm never picked. Although I doubt they ever would pick me. I'd be like "lock the fucker up". Totally unobjective.
