"Engaging with schools"

So, Monday. I have to go to a 2-day training course in York, intended to train us science postdocs to "engage with schools". Fair enough - I find talking about maths to school pupils infinitely preferable to talking about it to adults, who tend to persistently say "But what use is it?"

That said, it is science postdocs. I may well be the ( Read more... )

Is that the thing where you form a triangle instead of a circle?

Good luck for the course I hope it is of some worth and as for powerpoint... well it has its uses but I'm like you, prefer a blackboard (white board will suffice) and chalk.

Prescription, I think that is an automatic message after 6mths of repeats (or 6 repeats whichever comes first) and only occurs every 6 (of either). But I could be totally wrong.

Yes, a triangle is definitely better than a circle, and if you want the area to be convex (i.e. no dents) then a triangle is best. But the surprising thing is that if you don't insist on convexity, the area can be made as small as you want just by moving it in a very jagged way.

Prescription ... yes it's probably that. Although it's been 8 months not 6. But why did they cross out the message? Has Dr E decreed that Laura has to stay on this drug for ever, no review allowed?

Interesting! I love stuff like that and I have vague memories of being shown it by my maths teacher.

Prescription, I have no idea other than they might have dated it from when you saw the shrink and he wrote to your gp? But 2nd guessing drs is like trying to herd a cat.
