FAQ
◦ Do I have to be familiar with Animal Crossing at all to play?
No, not at all! In fact, we encourage those that are unfamiliar with the games to play with us just as much as those that aren't.
The Animal Crossing setting is really simple and we've tried to answer the obvious questions in this post. But, if you have any questions beyond that? You're welcome to leave a question in the comments of that post or ping one of the mods (Shini is most familiar with the setting, but Linh is always willing to help)
◦ So, how much are you taking from Animal Crossing, anyway?
The game is based primarily on the GameCube version. However, if players wish to take elements from the DS version, Wild World, they are welcome to do so. Please refrain from taking elements from City Folk, the to-be-released Wii version, for the time being.
◦ What about events?
Animal Crossing has a lot of canonical events of its own; and prior to each event, a mod will post significant changes and occurrences that players may notice.
◦ So, what about player-run plots, events, and so on?
Any player that would like to host an event or plot can contact the mods with a proposal and an intended date. The mods will review it and then contact the players with any comments, questions, or concerns they might have. Once all the details are ironed out, mods will ask players to post an explanation of the plot or event on the ooc comm so that all players will be on the same page.
◦ What is the character limit per person?
Just five per player for the moment! This limit is subject to change depending on player activity, but for now? Just focus on five.
◦ How long should I wait before applying for a new character?
We require you to have at least one post already made for the previous character before the next one can be applied for.
◦ How many characters per fandom can I have?
We'll ask players to limit themselves to two characters per fandom at the moment. Try to pick characters that aren't closely related in canon. For example, if you're already playing Spock, try not to play Captain Kirk.
◦ OCs? I've been looking for somewhere to play mine!
Eeerk. Sorry, but right now, we're only accepting fandom-based characters.
◦ How are interactions going to play out?
Well, to fore-go the magical introduction of technology, which usually means characters are stuck inside, constantly updating their livejournals/communicators/what have you, Turnip Town is action-post oriented. So, every post to turnip_town that isn't a letter or announcement board post? Is going to be real-time action done in the comment log format. So, even if your character is the most anti-social person ever, unless they lock themselves up in their room, they'll still have a chance to interact with people!
◦ Wait, wait, hold on. Letters?
Yup! Turnip Town might not be technologically advanced enough to have communicators, laptops, or things like that, but if your character wants to have private conversations with people without inviting them to their house for tea, they're welcome to utilize Turnip Town's active and usually friendly postal service. Since most of the population is pretty active in sending letters, there are multiple delivery times a day.
So, if your character wants to mail a letter to a specific person, just post with [Letter to _____] in the subject line of their post. Feel free to post multiple letters in the same post, if you like, too!
◦ And then that announcement board?
That's right! In the center of the housing block, you'll find a large message board. Your character is welcome to graffiti it, use it for announcements, or whatever strikes their fancy!
Just post what they would post on the announcement board in a post with [Announcement Board] on the subject line and other characters are welcome to play out their reactions to it in the comments.
◦ Okay, and what's your fourth walling policy?
Simply put: permissions, permissions, permissions. If you app a character who is from a fourth-walling series (looking at you: Deadpool, Sket Dance, Bakuman, Gintama...), we'll be asking you to put up a post where characters can offer their permission for you to break their fourth walls.
And if you play a character who isn't from a fourth walling canon, but might canonically recognize, say, Darth Vader? You'll want to ping Darth's player first before you have your character start humming the Imperial March and making jokes about force-choking around them. Got it? Good.
Got a question that hasn't been addressed here or the Settings page? Feel free to leave us a comment and we will answer to the best of our ability.
