Phonology= Death

Apr 11, 2013 22:21

So I had Phonology today and it was a totall nightmare! I had no idea what my proff. was talking about half the time only to realize after the lesson from a friend of mine that I did know the stuff she was teaching but she just used other definitions! So why would she do that??? I mean you've got one definition, isn't that good enough for you? Why ( Read more... )

Phonetics: studies sound -- including transmission
Morhpology: studies the structure of morphemes, which are the smallest grammatical unit in a language.
Phonology: Studies the organisation of sound; focuses on how sound conveys meaning.

I did a linguistics exam but I'm not a linguistics grad. (Englis literature to be honest.) Hope this helps

That's kind o a super cute piggy bank, I gather. Lovely.

First of thank you!

I thought it was something along these lines but than why do I have to know IPA (international phonetic alphabet)in both Phonetics and Phonology? I mean, it is easier in the general but still when it comes to how sounds convey meaning it's pretty much the same in all languages no?

And yes, that piggy bank is awful cute :)

rotrude already explained, but I'll add my tiny bit of knowledge too.

I think the main difference between phonology and phonetics is that phonology concentrates on a function of the sound and differences in how it's used in languages and phonetics is about how the sound is created (what shape are vocal cords, lips and other parts of involved anatomy when the sound is created).

I picked this up on a fanmade lecture about linguistic on con (the fan has degree in English, I think), so I hope I got it right.

And the toy is the cutest think ever. :)

Couldn't wear the shoes. I need them mostly flat. But they look good. :)

Thank you as well!

This is what you are doing in cons? tsk... sounds fun ;)

I used to wear them flat but since I accepted the fact that I will never grow again and my little sister just passed me in height I decided it was high time to change that fact. It takes a while to get used to walking on them and they are taller than what I usually walk but still, I feel so good while walking so high above the ground it's worth it :)

well, it was probably the most educational lecture a went to in there (and the only one of that kind in the whole program) and I was also working on my pornathon entry at the time, but I still learned a few things. xD

I'd wear high heels if I could, but my feet ached a lot when I tried. I weigh too much for them.

lol You were working on pornathon at the same time??? And you still learned something? Good for you! I couldn't do anything while in pornathon other than writing well, porn really ;)
