I am the proud owner of a Nikon D60 ,2 batteries, 2x4 gig high speed cards and a 2gig,tripod,carry bag, 18-55mm lens and 55-200mm lens, 3 year warranty.
Once you get used to DLSR you cannot stand Point-and-shoot again. You pick them up and can't hold them - where's the lens? Where do I put my left hand? Why are they so slow? You mean you don't have continuous drive shooting? What's with these "buttons" to zoom with? I can't do the nice blurry backgrounds? And the worst is you'll accidentally use the view-finder on a compact and everyone will look at you strangely...

Canon EOS 450D. :) Few lenses, 18-55mm, 35-135mm (ah, trademe -- that's a secondhand lens on the cheap.), and a 50 mm prime (that can do f/1.8) Christmas present.
You'll get hooked - before long, you'll want more accessories.... :)
(And Canon vs. Nikon is the great divide in SLR photography - think Holden vs. Ford. :)

oOooo I was tossing up between that and the Nikon! After studying reviews and sample photos and that the 450D was an extra $400 and came with 2 less freebies (no camera bag, no extra 2 gig card) I went with the Nikon...
Do you have a deviantart account? We need to keep track of our shots and keep the friendly Nikon vs canon alive :)
