Meal Planning for June 5-12.

Another nice thing about the morning walks is that they're a good time to handle our meal planning. By the time we got home from this morning's walk, we had most of our meal plan set up; a few things were conditional on what looked good at the farmers market (everything, really). By the end of the farmers market we'd settled that, too. I did ( Read more... )

Err. This time of year I'm so jealous of all the fabulous fruits and veggies you already have, while we're still limited to greens and asparagus and apples. There are a few cherries appearing and starting to be "not-quite-greens" like bok choy, spring onions, etc. It's June, it feels like there should be more, but there isn't, yet. Of course, the non-stop rain may have something to do with that!!

You'll be getting all those great apples later, though, and you have a really long pear season! We have a tiny pear season, which is a shame as I adore pears.

There are toasters out there that poach a single egg quite well - the kind of toasters that have a little side-attachment to hard-boil eggs. It is pretty nifty.

Toasters that poach!! Eenteresting. Though I'm thinking of scrapping my toaster for a reasonably studly toaster oven, since I almost never toast but I hate waiting for our oven to preheat. I wonder if there are toaster ovens that poach eggs? You could do toast, bacon, and eggs all at once!

I have an egg poacher thingie that goes in a saucepan, but I failed at poaching eggs in it. It did however work very well for steaming idli, so it's not a total loss.

oh I wish I would have gotten some of those berries. I saw them after I had already gotten 2 little buckets of cherries and that was enough fruit for me.

I am excited about this week's order from SCLocal Foods. I am getting a chicken, some peas, and some potatoes. yay chicken!

The cherries have a really short season too, especially the Rainier, so it's hard to pass them up! But I need to try to make some freezer space for some more berries as I will LOVE them in the winter. Last year I also froze some cherry compote I made and it was great later in yogurt or just plain.

We had one of the Fogline chickens and it was beeeyootiful. Made a roast chicken and then a big batch of stock. I may go order some potatoes now, nom nom nom. I really love that they're doing milk again, too. I've been so tired lately that I'm springing for PedEx... that'll be awesome, having it delivered.
