Right And Wrong

So, a lot has happened, mostly trivial stuff, since I've written last. One thing that caught my attention and has me mulling over it was something my Grandmother said. I don't really get over there that much because one of her children still lives there. Not that that itself is a bad thing, but, well, you have to know this one particular child ( Read more... )

There's a lot to be said for the ability to perspective take.

I've been having this image of reality being made up of millions of kaleidoscopes, and we're all looking through our own unique kaleidoscope...we are seeing patterns all differently...trying to make sense out of what we see, which is complex beyond words...

When I figure out how to make that idea understandable I'll write more about it.

And then some people are even looking through it using the wrong end! ;)

Still, I think there is some commonality to us all. To use your metaphor, we may see all different patterns, but all the patterns use the same ten colors in equal proportion. It's difficult to not get caught up in the pattern and see that ... well, all the time practically.

Wooo! Did you miss my rose colored glasses too? ;)

Ahhh! But one of the points I was going to make is that there are actually more colors than any of us can describe....some of us see more than others...layers upon layers of colors, so we're not even seeing the same ones.

Well I was visualizing all these kaleidoscopes as I was falling asleep last night.

I don't think it was any sort of hallucinagenic flashback or anything ;)

That's a neat way of putting it. :)

Your grandmother might have needed you to say something... she might have been looking for "permission" to break the attic rule, even though he is gone.

I wish I could explain it to you. It's one of those things where you really need to be able to walk a mile in her shoes. I understand and agree with what you are saying, on the other hand, I understand perfectly well where your grandma is coming from.

That's interesting, although, I find it slightly weird still when parents or older relatives need "parenting." I guess it really shouldn't be all that weird since it usually comes down to that we all have to take care of them when they do get older. Still, those are two different kinds of things really. One is more physical care and the first is more development care. It's weird to have the roles reversed like that.

There you are, getting my thinkingmachine started :P (eh, it's good ;)

The movie "Instinct" gave some food for thought... it placed some interesting questions and thoughts about freedom. Thanks for reminding me of the scene of the caged gorilla. I think it's a quite accurate metaphor of how we often act in life.

Hope the year is being a great one for you, so far at least!

Cool user icon.

Oh, and, uh, flipped rocks or something. (I had to keep this somehow related to the topic at hand, right?)

Yeah, I liked that movie a lot. Almost makes you want to turn savage and live with gorillas, doesn't it? ;)

It's probably a very difficult transition to be alone like that after being part of a team for so long.

Two very good reasons to go pantless in a blizzard, yeah. There are always exeptions to rules, so therefore there can't be any rules! :)
