LJ Idol Week 21: Current Events

Jun 15, 2017 17:21

This week's topic required us to find a story in our local paper to get inspiration from. This was my story I used.

It was the worst kept secret in the newsroom )

Reading that story infuriated me, knowing that those trees will get cut down and there's nothing anybody can do to stop it.

But I liked your entry a lot. Everything I've heard about Austin is incredible, and I would like to see it some day. My wife has been there, and she enjoyed her time there, but it was still in Texas, and she had a problem with that. (I have a little prejudice too because I grew up in New Mexico, and we had opinions about our neighbor, but I'm trying to get past that.)

Enjoy being an aunt!

Austin sounds like a marvelous city, even though (or because) the governor doesn't like it. It takes a lot of guts to move to a new city with no job and just start over. It sounds like there are no regrets.

This is a lovely celebration of your new home, and the reasons you had for moving. I do want to visit Austin someday, just to show up and wander.

I've heard terrific things about Austin, as if it's a small pocket of sanity and prettiness in the otherwise very different state. I'm glad you feel that it's home for you, and that you and your sister are able to be closer together. :)

SXSW. You get a front row seat! Does this mean you're now a Texas Instrument?! I was in Dallas exactly a year ago, and I didn't find it to be noticeably horrific. I was surprised at how well behaved the fans at the Rangers game I attended were... they were all so polite and surprisingly quiet for a baseball crowd! Maybe I just lucked out with the interactions I experienced.

When I was a kid, I visited Houston, but I know that place has changed a lot since then, so I hope to check it out again... but I've never experienced Austin or San Antonio, and this piece is a nice reminder!
