Not really. The shutter button only needs one finger, so I can hold the cigarette in that hand no problemo. I also like to think it helps steady my aim.
You know that I used to shoot performing musicians, professionally, back in Boston, right? Of course, mine was all film, since this was back in the mid-1990s. So, I never had an idea how the shots came out until they were developed. My favorite film was actually TMAX 3200 (though not usually used for the outdoor stages).
That was one of the things I didn't like about large venues; being only allowed to shoot the first three songs. If I had to shoot a large venue, I much preferred it when I was tied to the band and could shoot from the show and on stage.
Glad you had fun, in the end. The first experience at many things can cause nervousness.
Gosh, that rings a bell, but I had forgotten about that! Yeah, I can't imagine how my state of mind might have been had I been shooting film.
Yeah, I knew that the nervousness was natural, and that I was probably capable enough to be able to handle anything unexpected. Which didn't make the nervousness go away, of course, just easier to deal with. Would've been a lot easier if someone else from the Daily could come along to show me the ropes, but I see that it's straightforward enough for someone to figure out that this isn't really necessary.
Hello. Your pictures up on flickr are awesome! And thanks for the writeup--I know nothing about photography, so this was an interesting read. Good luck with everything.

It was doubly difficult because listening to music is one of many things that I love to enjoy with a cigarette (photography is another one).
Do you have to be very dextrous to smoke and use a camera at the same time?
